Overview The Area HSE Specialist is responsible for assisting in the overall supervision and administration of safety for Business Unit projects to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Overseeing project safety efforts in their respective area to prevent accidents and injuries while communicating details of safety conditions to the HSE Manager and various levels of Business Unit supervision for their area of responsibility. Responsibilities u2022 Participates in developing and conducting field safety orientation training. u2022 Daily inspection of machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safe work practices. u2022 Observes workers to determine appropriate use of prescribed safety equipment such as glasses helmets, goggles, respirators, gloves, and clothing. u2022 Inspection of specified areas for fire-prevention equipment, first-aid supplies, and other safety devices. u2022 Tests working areas for hazard exposures (noise, toxic, etc.) using associated testing equipment. u2022 Prepares reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action. u2022 Investigation of accidents per program procedures to establish root cause for use in recommending preventive safety measures. u2022 Documenting all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions or behavior. u2022 Assisting in development of standardized job safety analysis (JSA), corporate safety and health management program (SHMP), as well as project specific safety plans (PSSP). u2022 Conducts weekly safety meetings with workers to instruct them on company/project safety practices and requirements. u2022 Demonstrates use of equipment and conduct safety training u2022 Performs office or nonmanual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employeru2019s customers. u2022 Exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance in their area of responsibility u2022 Regularly interact with area Operational counterparts regarding trends and work activity. Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications u2022 Recognized Safety Certification. u2022 5 years of previous construction experience. u2022 1 year of previous experience as on-site safety person. u2022 First Aid, CPR, and AED Trainer. u2022 Specific mobile equipment trainer. u2022 Working knowledge of government regulations, hazard control methods, and industrial hygiene. u2022 Demonstrated ability to conduct training and influence organizational behavior. u2022 Effective verbal and written communication skills. u2022 Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment. u2022 Versed in the industry and the Companyu2019s competitors. u2022 Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary. Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications u2022 BCSP certification(s): CSP, ASP, GSP, OHST, CHST Travel Requirements u2022 50-75% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location. Physical/Work Environment Requirements u2022 Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. u2022 Climbing stairs. u2022 Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods. u2022 Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. u2022 Quiet environment. u2022 Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
