Job SummaryThe Hazardous Material Controller I is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient handling, movement, and documentation of hazardous materials, products, and waste within the facility. This role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains accurate inventory records, and supports operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in material handling procedures. Primary responsibilities include managing inbound and outbound shipments, maintaining storage areas, and ensuring accurate documentation in material and waste management systems.Key Responsibilitiesu2022 Load and unload shipments into and out of trucks while ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials.u2022 Receive chemicals and hazardous materials, verify against purchase orders, ensure SDS availability, label appropriately, and document transactions accurately in inventory systems.u2022 Manage materials within the facility, coordinating storage, distribution, and packaging to minimize handling and maintain compliance.u2022 Prepare hazardous materials for shipment, ensuring proper container selection, labeling, shipping documents, manifests, and compliance with land, air, and maritime regulations.u2022 Maintain storage areas in a neat, orderly, and compliant manner, performing inspections and documenting results.u2022 Support facility security by ensuring gates and doors remain closed and locked when not in use.u2022 Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, drum carts, and dollies.u2022 Accurately document inventory of materials, products, and waste in designated databases.u2022 Participate in safety, security, and quality initiatives to promote a culture of compliance and operational excellence.u2022 Perform housekeeping duties to maintain clean and organized work areas.u2022 Perform other duties as assigned to support operations.Minimum Education & Experience Requirementsu2022 High school diploma or equivalent.u2022 Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role involving hazardous materials handling and inventory management.u2022 Basic math and reading skills sufficient for interpreting labels, instructions, regulations, and inventory documentation.u2022 Valid driver's license required.Special Requirementsu2022 Certification and training in hazardous materials handling and transportation, including:- U.S. DOT HAZMAT Employee (initial within 90 days, recurring every 3 years)- IATA Dangerous Goods (initial within 6 months, recurring every 2 years)- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management (initial within 6 months, recurring annually) u2022 PCC Training for Group I.D. 4 shipping (120 hours of on-the-job training within first 90 days). u2022 Forklift operation certification preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitiesu2022 Strong organizational and communication skills.u2022 Ability to operate material handling equipment safely and effectively.u2022 Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations, shipping documentation, and inventory management systems.u2022 Proficiency in basic computer programs for data entry and reporting.u2022 Attention to detail and accuracy in documenting material movements.u2022 Ability to measure, weigh, and occasionally lift materials up to 65 pounds.Additional Desired Characteristicsu2022 RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Certification.u2022 USDOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Certification.u2022 IATA International Air Transport Association Certification.u2022 IMDG International Maritime Dangerous Goods Certification.Work Environmentu2022 Position located in theu00a0regional areau00a0with occasional travel.u2022 Must be able to work flexible hours as required by operational needs.u2022 Onsite work environment with hands-on material handling responsibilities.Other DutiesThis job description is not exhaustive.
