GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The employee is responsible for daily activities associated with the processing of tissues as received from surgical procedures; participation in the education of pathology residents in tissue processing and participation in the quality assurance activities that are associated with these processes. The incumbent will serve as a Grossing Technician in the Gross Room and Frozen Section Services area under the supervision of the Pathologists' Assistant Lead or Medical Director of Pathology Services. EDUCATION: u2022 Associateu2019s degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological) or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution or; u2022 Education / training equivalent to the above that includes the following: o 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND o Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) EXPERIENCE: u2022 1 year of histology and/or grossing experience required CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: u2022 Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred
