JOB REQUIREMENTS: Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) isMadison's public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety ofathletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes forall ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimminginstruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summercamps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leaguesincluding pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoorpursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteeringand challenge courses. As a department of the Madison MetropolitanSchool District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichmentactivities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madisonelementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center andMeadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include:arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing,soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more ProgramDescription: MSCR Outdoor Programs offer dynamic and engagingexperiential and environmental education opportunities for students,community members and corporate clients. Our mission is to empower andfacilitate individual and group transformation through experientiallearning by providing positive outdoor experiences. We do this throughactivities including paddling, environmental education, andteambuilding. Paid professional development and training are provided tohelp build your skills, scheduling is flexible, and you get to join agreat group of Outdoor Programs instructors. Job Description & Duties:The Outdoor Programs Paddling Coordinator directly supports all paddlingprograms by running staff training, managing equipment, leadingprograms, and evolving paddling program offerings. Workingcollaboratively with the MSCR Outdoor Programs Specialist and two otherProgram Coordinators, this role helps support overall operations of MSCROutdoor Programs. Duties Include: Planning and implementing Canoe andKayak staff trainings with support from the MSCR Program SpecialistMaintain gear and equipment including maintenance, purchasing,organizing, and record keeping Act as lead facilitator for paddlingprograms including trailering boats to multiple program locations aroundthe city of Madison, supervising/delegating responsibilities to outdoorprogram instructors, and maintain safe operating procedures for outdoorprogramming on the water Assist with recruitment, hiring, and evaluationof outdoor program instructions Assist with promotion of programs andrecruitment of participants Maintain knowledge of current experientialand outdoor program trends in paddlesports Able to be self-motivated,working both independently and with a group, to manage multiple jobresponsibilities and various scheduling commitments Start Date: Positionstart date ASAP with a strong preference for a start date by March 16th.Staff training begins March 23rd and paddling programs begin mid-Aprilwith programs running through the end of November. Locations MSCRCentral OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: MinimumQualifications: Willingness to work outdoors in various weatherconditions for up to 8 hours Physical ability to stand/sit for extendedperiods and lift/carry up to 50lbs Previous experience facilitatingoutdoor paddlesports for youth and adults Strong organizational skills,detail oriented, and recreation program planning experience Strongcommunication and customer skills both verbally and in writingComfortability with directing staff on positive, safe operations forpaddle sports Experience with implementing risk management skills inoutdoor program settings Reliable transportation to program sitelocation(s) Enthusiasm for facilitating and learning in the outdoorswith all ages Certified or able to obtain certification in CPR/AED/FirstAid Commitme t to the mission and vision of MSCR and the goals of MSCROutdoor Programs Preferred Qualifications: Prior supervisory experiencein paddlesports or other outdoor experiential education environmentPrior experience training staff to lead and assist in offeringpaddlesports or other outdoor program areas Certified in paddle sportswith American Canoe Association or prior experience to attest to leadingoutdoor programming Prior experience hauling equipment includingtrailering canoes/kayaks Certified or willing to be certified inWilderness and Remote First Aid or First Responder Secondary languageskills in Spanish and/or Hmong highly desired Other Information: Formore information, please contact Emily Peffer APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: ApplyOnline:PLEASE NOTE MSCR has a new, online Employment Applicationsystem.
