Work involves diagnosing, repairing, and/or replacing malfunctioning parts and components; preparing new vehicles for operation and surplus vehicles for sale; and/or test driving vehicles to verify effectiveness of work performed. May train others. Work under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Motor Vehicle Technician IV:Perform advanced motor vehicle maintenance and repair work. Work involves diagnosing, repairing, and/or replacing malfunctioning parts and components; preparing new vehicles for operation and surplus vehicles for sale; test driving vehicles to verify effectiveness of work performed; estimating repair costs, requisitioning parts and supplies; and training others. Work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Motor Vehicle Technician V (Lead):Perform highly advanced (senior-level) technical and skilled work as lead of automotive technician to service, maintain, repair, and test drive agency vehicles to ensure maximum operating effectiveness of agency vehicles within the limits of allocated resources. Work involves performing complex and technically advanced automotive repairs; verifying the effectiveness of work through test driving vehicles, and working closely with the Communication Electronic Technicians to schedule and coordinate repairs that require the expertise of both trades. Work is performed under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Motor Vehicle Technician III:1. Repair or replace heavy drive-line components such as engines, transmissions and differentials to return the vehicle to factory operating condition.2. Diagnose, repair, and replace defective components, electronic elements, and vehicle system malfunctions through the use of service manuals, electronic testing, and diagnostic equipment and manual or pneumatic testing equipment.3. Operate a wide variety of hand, power and bench tools and a variety of diagnostic, measuring, and testing equipment in performance of assigned duties.4. Perform routine maintenance and service including but not limited to oil and filter changes, transmission service, tire service, front-end alignments, belt and hose replacements, and other related service work.5. Inspect and test drive new vehicles to evaluate for proper operation and verify the vehicle meets specification .6. Evaluate, identify, and diagnose the overall condition of surplus vehicles and make the necessary repairs to prepare them for disposal.7. Perform State Motor Vehicle inspections.8. Document work performed and parts used.9. May perform service calls and wrecker runs statewide.10. May train technicians in proper repair procedures and the safe and correct use of tools and diagnostic equipment.11. May travel.12. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.13. Perform other duties as assigned.Motor Vehicle Technician IV:1. Inspect and test drive new vehicles to evaluate for proper operation and verify the vehicle meets specifications.6. Evaluate, identify, and diagnose the overall condition of surplus vehicles and make the necessary repairs to prepare them for disposal.7. Perform State Motor Vehicle inspections.8. Document work performed and parts used.9. Train technicians in proper repair procedures and the safe and correct use of tools and diagnostic equipment.10. May serve as the team lead in the absence of the Automotive Technician Team Leader.11. May travel.12. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.13. Perform other duties as assigned.Motor Vehicle Technician V (Lead):1. Diagnose vehicle operating problems using service repair manuals, visual inspection, mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic testing equipment.2. Plan, organize, and coordinate the servicing, maintenance, and repair of agency vehicles and assign mechanics to accomplish work unit objectives efficiently and effectively.3. Schedule and coordinate work appointments for specific vehicles to optimize utilization resources.4. Perform bench repairs to various types of electrical components (alternators, starters, etc.) by removing worn or damaged components using the proper equipment and repair procedures.5. Estimate repairs, coordinate, and interact with an in-house independent parts vendor to provide the parts and supplies needed to repair and maintain regional agency vehicles, and maintain records of work performed in the regional fleet facility.6. Discuss malfunctions, warranties, parts, and service with a wide variety of internal and external customers.7. Test drive vehicles to verify the effectiveness of repairs performed.8. Coordinate warranty repair work with dealerships as appropriate.9. Assist Automotive Services Supervisor in preparing orders for tools, equipment, and supplies to keep the Automotive Maintenance Facility operating effectively.10. Stay abreast of new technology regarding vehicle safety restraint systems, anti-lock brakes, traction control, ignition systems, and fuel delivery systems.11. Compile information from files and records to respond to inquiries from various sources regarding maintenance/repair status.12. May coordinate the disposal of hazardous materials including but not limited to batteries, waste oil, and antifreeze.13. Respond to disasters to provide field support operations as required.14. May train others.15. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.16.
