Job Description: The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge and leadership as described below. This position has oversight of a specific area and acts as a representative of the engineering discipline ensuring technical accuracy in project execution in all phases. This is a lead position on assigned projects performing engineering assignments of advanced complexity. u2022 Under general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer, serve as an Area Lead providing guidance/supervision to other engineers and designers u2022 Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of advanced complexity in accordance with project requirements u2022 Develop and review specifications and design criteria u2022 Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of advanced complexity u2022 Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients u2022 Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures u2022 Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines u2022 Develop and review estimates, schedules and progress reports including effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting u2022 Establish, control and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts u2022 Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations and review of vendor submittals u2022 Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes u2022 Other duties as assigned Basic Job Requirements: u2022 U.S. Citizenship required u2022 Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum fifteen (15) years of work- related experience u2022 Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards u2022 Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors u2022 Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job u2022 Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards u2022 Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines u2022 Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs u2022 Significant experience providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on large industrial projects u2022 Proficiency executing large EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools in a multi-discipline environment Discipline Specific Job Requirements: + Prepare and review calculations, engineering analysis, specifications and drawings related to pipe routing and layout, stress analysis, hanger design and P&ID development + Select piping materials required, evaluate service life and suitability + Prepare piping purchase descriptions for valves, pipe, fittings, and flanges, and other special piping components + Calculate pipe wall thickness (pressure & vacuum), and make preliminary selections + Review Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) for proper valving and conformance to project specification + Develop pressure test P&ID + Identify and select special piping components + Check assigned line numbers, and line class specifications against master P&ID and pipe line list + Prepare package for registration of piping design in the appropriate jurisdiction + Complete complex stress analysis and calculations + Prepare line stress calculations (including thermal, dead weight, loop, etc.) with modeling loading calculations and summaries of piping systems + Perform stress analysis of complex systems using stress analysis software and with conclusive results regarding suitability of the design + Develop data for spring hanger design and engineered supports Preferred Qualifications: u2022 Professional Engineer license u2022 Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of ASME NQA-1 u2022 Advanced knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials u2022 Demonstrated experience managing and leading large projects u2022 Proficiency with project set-up, development of control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out u2022 Practical field experience u2022 EPC project experience for the following industries: u2212 U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency u2212 Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program u2212 Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology u2022 2D CAD drafting proficiency utilizing Bentley MicroStation u2022 3D modeling proficiency utilizing Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) u2022 Stress analysis proficiency utilizing Bentley AutoPIPE u2022 Advanced knowledge of: u2212 Work processes and technical specifications of stress and/or material engineering u2212 Interpretation of P&ID, other discipline drawings and vendor equipment documentation u2212 Stress/strain theories as applied to strength of materials u2212 Requirements outlined in the piping flexibility, support element, expansion joint and shock arrestor specifications You must be a US Citizen to apply Work at client site.
