Job Description

Job Summary The Welder role is a hands-on position within a heavy manufacturing environment, responsible for fabricating and welding precision components used in large-scale electrical power equipment. This role focuses on welding pre-fabricated and machined parts that form critical internal subassemblies for medium, large power, and extra-high-voltage (EHV) applications. Welders are trained to set up, lay out, mark, weld, and finish components to detailed engineering specifications using calibrated measuring tools, welding equipment, and a wide range of industrial tooling. Materials include mild steel, stainless steel, and copper. Welding is performed using multiple processes and positions, covering both internal and external components, including specialty weldments such as clamps and covers. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and craftsmanship, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding industrial environment. Key Responsibilities + Safety & Compliance + Adhere to all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). + Follow environmental, health, and safety standards at all times. + Manufacturing & Welding Operations + Set up, load, weld, and finish fabricated assemblies per engineering drawings, technical data sheets, and bills of material. + Perform welding using trained and certified processes, including: + GMAW (MIG) + GTAW (TIG) + SMAW (Stick) + SAW + Stud welding + GMAW-MC + Select appropriate materials, consumables, and tooling for each operation. + Load and unload components using fixtures, weld tables, carts, pallets, overhead cranes, forklifts, or other powered industrial vehicles. + Perform minor weld repairs, defect corrections, and basic equipment or tooling maintenance. + Quality & Precision + Verify weld accuracy using in-process inspection checklists, tolerances, and clearance requirements. + Conduct self-inspections and support inspection activities for peers. + Repair weld defects identified during inspection or downstream processes. + Housekeeping & Process Discipline + Maintain clean, organized work areas in accordance with 5S standards. + Perform contamination control activities such as vacuuming, magnetic sweeps, and equipment cleaning. + Collaboration & Development + Work closely with supervisors, team leads, engineering, quality, safety, and training teams. + Assist in the onboarding and training of new operators. + Continuously develop technical skills and maintain proficiency across multiple welding processes. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities + Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and manage time effectively in a production environment. + Proficiency with industrial tools and equipment, including: + Welding machines, grinders, sanders, cut-off wheels, plasma cutters, flame cutters + Pneumatic tools and powered industrial vehicles + Overhead cranes and material-handling equipment + Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness. + Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications. + Experience working with materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, copper, welding wire, abrasives, and industrial cleaning agents. + Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills. + Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and precision workmanship. Education & Experience Required + High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred + Prior experience in welding, heavy manufacturing, mechanical fabrication, power equipment, or industrial production environments.
