These positions are remote, HOWEVER, will require extensive travel to various Air Force/Space Force Bases around the world. At GDIT a Field Engineer is leading every aspect of what we provide to the customer and weu2019re constantly evolving our approach to meeting our clientsu2019 biggest challenges HOW A DS ENGINEER SENIOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT: A Senior DS Engineer provides technical expertise to modernize network design and implementation supporting multiple Air Force and Space Force bases globally. The DS Engineer will be the technical resource supporting the survey and implementation efforts. Works closely with the base's counterparts and facilitate the planning, execution, testing and sustainment of the wired functionality of the network. Primary Responsibilities: This position will perform the following duties: + Provides solutions to problems and guidance to less experienced field engineers. + Provides guidance on different types of equipment and infrastructure maintenance. + Provides guidance and installs more advanced or new technologies based on the needs of the customer/client. + Conduct end-to-end testing of fiber optic cables using OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer), power meters, and other tools. + Provides guidance, reports findings and provides solutions for any issues that halt progression. + Provides recommendations and solutions resulting from equipment assessments and checkups. + Provides training to internal and external groups on product features and specifications. + Strengthens and builds client relationships by improving interaction with products. + Review the work of less experienced team members. + Review other team membersu2019 work and coach through issues for accurate production submissions. + Execution - Coordinate with Government Points of Contact (POCs) to coordinate design, installation, base access, clearance, escorts, personnel and equipment to ensure project tasks can be completed on time. + Stakeholder Communications u2013 assist the PM with ensuring clear, consistent, timely and accurate communications are maintained with internal and external project stakeholders + Technical support u2013 provide input into the distribution systems design (ISP/OSP) and technical recommendations to the program and operation teams. + Leadership u2013 Lead small implementation teams or manage specific work scopes for a given AF/SF base. Other tasks include: + Provides technical, administrative, and operational management of assigned projects. + Develops technical project plans, proposals, reports, and task order and administrative reporting. + Perform detailed technical services on assigned tasks. + Conducts planning and provides recommendations on task workload. + Update network as-built documentation and records based on splicing and testing results. + Attends customer meetings and serves as primary network engineering liaison. + Interacts with vendors, other agencies, and other client staff. + Coordinates development of deliverables and products. + Ensures quality assurance of project deliverables. + Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned. + Participates in special projects as required. + Reviews project requirements and develop strategies for future work. WHAT YOUu2019LL NEED TO SUCCEED: + Education: Bacheloru2019s Degree from an accredited institute in an area applicable to this position. Equivalent years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. + Required Experience: 5+ yearsu2019 experience in DS Engineering with focus on Fiber Splicing and Fiber Testing, ideally in DoD environment on IT upgrade projects + Security Clearance Level: ActiveDoD Secret Level Clearance required + Extensive background in fiber splicing and testing using Fluke Versiv power meter and OTDR. Technical Skills: + Familiarity with distribution systems (ISP/OSP) design and Implementation documents such as u2013 Site Survey Reports, Preliminary and Critical Design documentation, As-built diagrams, rack elevations and circuit connectivity matrices + Familiar with all aspects of fiber testing + Thorough understanding of Wired and general IT functions Skills & Abilities: + Ability to work effectively in a virtual teaming environment. + Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, documents and governmental regulations + Strong commitment to a team environment and the ability to work collaboratively + Strong coordination and organizational skills + Excellent written and oral communication skills DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Experience using MS Visio or related CAD tools + Location: Hiring location will be remote but will require extensive travel. + Working locations will vary but will be located on site at Air Force/Space Force Bases around the world. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
