Some of what you'll be doing: This full-time summer internship opportunity supports Construction Safety Management efforts for the Port of Seattle Capitol Development Division at Aviation and Maritime facilities to assure compliance with contract specifications, Port policies, Washington Administrative Codes (WAC), FAA requirements, US Coastguard requirements, and applicable Fire codes. + Work in conjunction with the Construction Safety Department, Construction Managers, and Construction Inspectors to assist in providing safety management oversight of contractors. + Review Site Safety Plans, provide safety awareness training to contractors and Port staff, assist in performing documented weekly audits of contractorsu2019 safe work procedures and site conditions. + Assist the Construction Safety Managers and inspectors in the identification and resolution of safety concerns. + Assist Construction Safety Management with the preparation of meetings, managing databases, and the management and inspection of safety equipment inventory. + Assist with the coordination of activities with contractors and Port departments. You can work with MS Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam. + Communication u2013 You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Organized and Proactive u2013 Youu2019re flexible and open to learning new things and possess strong organizational and time management skills. + Experienced u2013 You have some basic construction safety or construction management skills such as the ability to read and interpret safety plans, specifications, project schedules and applicable codes. Youu2019re able to organize and maintain accurate and up-date project safety documents and records. + Desired u2013 We hope you have technical writing skills. Public speaking and presentation skills are also preferred. What else you need to know: + Driveru2019s License u2013 You will need a valid Washington State Driveru2019s License, or the ability to obtain one, in order to travel locally to project sites. + Work Schedule u2013 This is a summer intern position expected to last for roughly three (3) months during the summer. Normal work hours will typically be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. + Work Environment u2013 You will generally have a combination of both working indoors, in an office environment, and working outdoors. Construction site work may include all types of inclement weather with excessive noise.May be required to perform physically active tasks that entail walking, stooping, crawling, and climbing. Limited telework may be available with manager approval. Please note that this work location is not accessible via public transit. Port of Seattle fleet vehicles may be available for last-mile connections. + Limited Duration u2013 This is a limited-duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months. + Safety Requirements u2013 You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. + Security Requirements u2013 As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. + Washington State Residency Requirement u2013 Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.
