Scheduled performance reviews Referral program Job Description: Under the supervision of the center responsible physician (e.g., Center Medical Director) and Center Management the Center Apheresis Medical Specialist will ensure donor eligibility, product integrity and the continued good health of donors through the compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual guidelines. The Center Apheresis Medical Specialist will be responsible for oversight and performance of leukapheresis proceduresin accordance with all approved SOPs and FDA regulations as well as monitoring donor status before, during, and after procedures, monitoring for and managing adversereactions and adjusting the procedure as needed. Primary responsibilities for role: u00b7 Promote customer satisfaction through appropriate interaction and responsiveness to customer needs u00b7 Builds rapport with donors to ensure overall customer satisfaction with the center to support long term donation. u00b7 Selection of eligible plasmapheresis and leukapheresis donors by performing physical examinations and taking medical histories on all donors through the use of FDA approved Standard u00b7 Operating Procedure (SOP) Manual, current State and Federal guidelines, OSHA, CLIA, CGMP, all internal company procedures and personal education and experience. u00b7 Preparing donors for plasmapheresis and leukapheresis procedures, explaining the process, and addressing any concerns u00b7 Monitoring donors during plasmapheresis and leukapheresis procedures and responding promptly to any adverse reactions. u00b7 Assemble, restock, QC, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. u00b7 Operating apheresis equipment and ensuring accurate collection and processing of blood components. u00b7 Perform pre-donation donation screening and lab testing using based on specific requirements of the plasmapheresis or leukapheresis procedure. u00b7 Responsible for donor awareness to potential risks and hazards specific to the procedure being performed. u00b7 Administration of donor consent form. u00b7 Provides Donor education on trends identified regarding general health assessment completed at the Center. u00b7 Provides counseling to Donors regarding unacceptable test results. u00b7 Evaluates, manages, and documents donor injuries and adverse events, including administration of necessary medications. u00b7 Performs evaluations of any history of illness or medications to ensure continued donor eligibility. u00b7 Ensures Donor medical information is complete and accurate prior to donation. u00b7 Review of donor screening tests to ensure eligibility of continued donation. u00b7 Serve as a designated trainer for the leukapheresis procedure. u00b7 Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting apheresis equipment, ensuring it is in proper working order. u00b7 Maintain supplies necessary to perform job duties. u00b7 Maintains and ensures proper sanitation and cleaning of equipment and work areas between donors. u00b7 Ensures Donor and Staff confidentiality. u00b7 Reports all unsafe situations or conditions to Center Management. u00b7 Collaborate with center quality management on continuous quality improvement projects. u00b7 Collaborate with center management on scheduling leukapheresis procedures to ensure proper staffing and availability of all needed resources. u00b7 Perform other duties as required which may include leukapheresis products logistics such as packing, shipping, labeling. Additional Responsibilities: u00b7 Works under direct supervision until fully trained and then general supervision once trained. u00b7 Handles all levels of medical issues in the center and may review complex cases with the Center MedicalDirector. u00b7 May direct or administer a hyper immune program. u00b7 May assist with company research trials. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: u00b7 Proficiency in performing venepuncture and managing various types of vascular access. u00b7 Knowledge of apheresis techniques, equipment, and related medical conditions. u00b7 Strong assessment skills with the ability to handle all donor eligibility determinations. u00b7 Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. u00b7 Good understanding of both verbal and written English. u00b7 Where applicable written and verbal bi-lingual skills. u00b7 Ability to understand and follow SOPs and protocols. u00b7 The ability to organize, prioritize and complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks in a high paced, highly regulated environment following strict protocols in regards to audits and detailed documentation. u00b7 Has the skills to delegate when appropriate. u00b7 Computer proficient in web based training and Word. Education: u00b7 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and currently certified/licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as a Registered Nurse (RN). Current CPR certification required. u00b7 Qualification in Apheresis (QIA) certification preferred. Experience: u00b7 Requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience providing medical care and assessing patients. u00b7 Experience in therapeutic apheresis, plasma collection, or whole blood experience preferred. Occupational demands: u00b7 Work is performed in a plasma center. u00b7 Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. u00b7 Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment. u00b7 Exposure to extreme cold below 32 degrees F while performing functions in plasma freezers. u00b7 Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, gloves and coldgear. u00b7 Work is performed both standing and sitting for up to 2 to 4 hours per day each. u00b7 The position does require bending and twisting of neck up from 1 to 2 hours per day. u00b7 Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. u00b7 Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects. u00b7 Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch or sit on one's heels on rare occasion. u00b7 Occasionally walks, bends and twists at waist. u00b7 Light lifting of 15lbs. with a maximum lift of 50lbs. u00b7 May reach below shoulder height. u00b7 Hearing acuity essential. u00b7 Color perception/discrimination, near vision and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and to 20/100 in the other eye. u00b7 Able to communicate information and ideas others will understand, with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. u00b7 Works independently and within guidance of oral or written instructions. u00b7 Performs a wide range of tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions. u00b7 Relates sensitive information to diverse groups.
