The Work You Will Do: Highway Maintenance Technician II / Tampa Operations Center This position will be responsible for maintaining our state roadway system. Where You Will Work: Florida Department of Transportation Tampa Operations Center 2822 Leslie Rd Tampa, FL 33619 Your Specific Responsibilities: Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license; operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck. Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating. Cleans and washes equipment. Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs. Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Your Specific Responsibilities: Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license; operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck. Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating. Cleans and washes equipment. Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: + Typical construction measuring tools, equipment, or instruments and standard safety techniques. Skills in: + Operating a variety of hand and power tools. + O perate and perform pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles and/or mechanized equipment that they are operating. Ability to: + Read and understand job related materials and fill out reports and forms. + Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures. + Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions. + Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others. + Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds. + Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis. + Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic. + Stand for an extended period. + Operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment. Other Job-Related Requirements: + Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies. While on-duty status, the positions incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driveru2019s license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis performs other CMV safety-sensitive functions. + The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. + Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it. + Possess a valid Class
