This position provides leadership within the Public Safety team, ensuring security across the healthcare campus while supporting MD Anderson's mission of care, healing, and discovery. The Senior Public Safety Officer will mentor and guide team members while managing essential security operations. This role requires strong decision-making skills, the ability to respond effectively in emergencies, and a commitment to institutional safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have an associate degree, IAHSS certification, and demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring and team development. Previous experience in public safety or a related field is preferred, along with a valid Texas driver's license. Minimum $19.23 - Midpoint $22.12 - Maximum $25.00 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. The typical work schedule includes rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays) as this is an essential personnel role. Work Location: Houston, Texas. Why Us? Responsibilities Leadership & Team Support u2022 Mentor, train, and evaluate Public Safety Officers u2022 Provide guidance and support for team development and performance Security Operations u2022 Patrol property by vehicle and on foot to maintain a safe environment u2022 Manage door screenings, access control, and lock/unlock procedures u2022 Operate and monitor security technology systems and report issues Special Assignments & Customer Service u2022 Handle morgue duty, package and animal deliveries, and parking/traffic control u2022 Assist motorists, provide escort services, and relieve dispatchers when needed u2022 Prepare accurate incident and departmental reports Emergency Response u2022 Respond to calls and make sound decisions under pressure u2022 Ensure compliance with institutional safety protocols Requirements EDUCATION u2022 Required: High school diploma or equivalent u2022 Preferred: Associate's Degree WORK EXPERIENCE u2022 Required: Minimum 2 years as a Public Safety Officer or related experience LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS u2022 Required: Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license u2022 Preferred: International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification OTHER REQUIREMENTS u2022 Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers excellent [benefits](including medical, dental, [paid time off]([retirement](tuition benefits, educational opportunities, and individual and team recognition.
