Sr Backend Engineer

Description We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our team in San Francisco, California. In this role, you will play a key part in developing advanced backend systems that drive pharmacy software innovation, ensuring efficiency and scalability for healthcare operations. You will collaborate across teams to design, implement, and maintain distributed systems that support real-time interactions and complex workflows in the telehealth and pharmacy sectors. Responsibilities: u2022 Lead the design, development, and optimization of backend services, APIs, and data pipelines to support large-scale pharmacy operations. u2022 Architect distributed systems that handle high webhook traffic, third-party integrations, and real-time scheduling for providers and patients. u2022 Establish and enforce best practices for system performance, security, and scalability to ensure reliable healthcare workflows. u2022 Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, Frontend, and Pharmacy Operations, to create seamless solutions for healthcare challenges. u2022 Mentor team members, set technical standards, and make key architectural decisions to guide the backend engineering strategy. u2022 Ensure system reliability and resilience, focusing on patient safety and operational efficiency in distributed environments. u2022 Drive innovation within the engineering team, fostering a culture of technical ownership and collaboration. u2022 Optimize infrastructure for scalability and maintainability as the platform grows to meet increasing healthcare demands. Requirements u2022 At least 7 years of experience in backend development, with expertise in Node.js (TypeScript/JavaScript) and modern frameworks. u2022 Proven ability to architect and deploy distributed systems at scale in production environments. u2022 Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, container orchestration tools like Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. u2022 Experience building and maintaining large codebases with a focus on performance and maintainability. u2022 Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams. u2022 Adaptability and resourcefulness to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. u2022 Familiarity with healthcare software, pharmacy systems, or regulated environments is a plus. u2022 Knowledge of real-time messaging, inventory systems, or enterprise SaaS platforms is desirable.
