Description HOURLY RANGE: $31.60 - $42.82 SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COORDINATORDISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves supervising and coordinating a variety of professional environmental services operations at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent supervises and assigns work activities in one or more service areas including Terrace View Long-Term Care Facility and School 84. This class differs from that of Environmental Service Coordinator by virtue of increased work responsibilities and the complex nature of the work performed. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Manager or the Assistant Vice President of Operations. Supervision is exercised over lower-level environmental services staff. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Supervises environmental services functions as performed by lower-level staff including, but not limited to: housekeeping (patient room cleaning, housecleaning projects, floors and carpet cleaning), laundry operation, transport, bed discharging processes and mailroom operations; Assists in recruiting, hiring and training personnel, evaluates staff based on established competencies and issues disciplines;Develops inspection schedules, performs quality assurance inspections and coordinates corrective action and/or develops responses to quality assurance matters;Responds to visitor and employee communication related to environmental services functions;Plans and performs employee training and orientation programs;Evaluates work methods and workflow and makes recommendations for improving such;Monitors and maintains appropriate stock of equipment and materials and ensures equipment works properly and removes non-functioning equipment from stock;Monitors and maintains appropriate records and statistics;Participates in the development of budget requests;Prepares employee accident reports, evaluations and various other department operating forms;Attends and participates in departmental and other institutional meetings for improvement of all environmental services functions;Schedules the operation of a Pest Control Program;May perform support staff work activities. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONALCHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of practices, practices, techniques, equipment and supplies associated with environmental services functions such as hospital housekeeping, laundry operations, transport, bed discharging and mailroom operations practices, procedures, techniques, equipment and supplies; thorough knowledge of hospital environmental quality assurance standards; thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and accreditation standards; thorough knowledge of infection control standards and practices; thorough knowledge of hazardous substances typically found in a hospital and methods for proper disposal; ability to coordinate, supervise and evaluate environmental services functions as performed by lower-level staff; ability to plan and assign work; ability to train and evaluate staff; ability to maintain adequate staffing levels; ability to maintain proper and functional stock of equipment and supplies; ability to develop recommendations for improving work methods and workflow; ability to compile and maintain data; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications; sound professional judgment; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A.) Possession of an Associateu2019s Degree or completion of a minimum of sixty (60) credit hours and four (4) years of experience in housekeeping, cleaning services, sanitation or laundry operations experience, one (1) year of was were in a supervisory capacity in an institutional setting; or:B.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience in housekeeping, cleaning services, sanitation or laundry operations experience, one (1) year of which was in a supervisory capacity in an institutional setting; or:C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. NOTE 2: Supervisory experience, as defined by New York State Civil Service, means responsible direction and control of subordinate employees. This involves a responsibility for planning for individuals in a work group. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, maintaining work standards, motivating and developing subordinate employees, implementing procedural changes, increasing efficiency and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale and discipline. The supervision aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional. True supervision (e.g., first-line supervisors as opposed to u201clead workersu201d) is characterized by: (1) the close and immediate supervision of permanently assigned employees, on a regular, ongoing basis; (2) responsibility for the assignment and review of work, providing work instruction, the evaluation of work performance, maintenance of work standards, handling absenteeism, discipline, etc.; (3) accountability for the quantity and quality of subordinateu2019s work and/or the completion of projects and program accomplishments.
