Summary The Registered Nurse serves as the Falls Prevention Program Coordinator at the Orlando VA Medical Center in Lake Nona, providing leadership, coordination, and oversight of an evidence-based falls prevention program to promote patient safety and reduce fall-related injuries. Responsibilities The RN applies the nursing process, clinical expertise, and program management principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate falls prevention strategies across the health care system. The incumbent collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, nursing leadership, and patient safety staff to improve quality outcomes, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support a culture of safety. Duties include, but are not limited to: Applies the nursing process at the system, service, and unit level to improve fall prevention practices and patient safety outcomes. Coordinates, develops, and evaluates an evidence-based Falls Prevention Program aligned with VA policies, national standards, and best practices. Serves as a clinical and programmatic resource to nursing staff, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams on fall prevention strategies and interventions. Analyzes falls data, identifies trends, and recommends improvements to reduce fall and injury risk. Develops, implements, and maintains facility falls prevention policies, clinical guidelines, and education programs for staff, patients, and caregivers. Participates in or leads Fall Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and collaborates with Patient Safety Managers to address identified risks. Prepares required reports, benchmarks, and annual falls program aggregates for leadership review. Participates in quality improvement activities that support safe, effective, and veteran-centered care.
