ABOUT THE POSITIONStructural Engineer - Building Design | HybridAs part of our structures growth across our footprint, we're adding structural engineer who would serve an important role in planning, analysis, design, detailing of new building structures and existing building renovation, with a current focus on transportation-related buildings such as rail & transit stations and parking facilities. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging building design practice in Washington DC and Tysons Corner VA.Learn more about our Structures practice at VHB: Bridges & Structures | VHBResponsibilitiesDevelops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structuresSupports and mentors junior team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.Monitors of project budgets and schedulesAssists with proposals and presentations for rail/transit pursuitsSupport building structural projects across VHB’s footprintSkills & AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural building engineering Must possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codesExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing Team oriented with strong capability to work independently Robust technical and critical thinking skills Strong project management skills Proactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and qualityAbility to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotelyEnthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibilityMotivated to mentor junior staffStrong organizational and time management skillsProficiency in the use of structural engineering 3D Finite Analysis and BIM software such as RISA 3D, STAAD pro, SAP2000,RAM Concept, RAM Structural System, MathCAD, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicrostationQualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, master’s degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)Minimum 5-8 years of structural engineering experience required. Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 6 months Experience with new structural building construction and structural building renovations on shallow and deep foundationProficient in the design of steel and concrete structures with a solid understanding of the International Code and local codes; familiarity with wood and heavy timber structures is a plus.Experience working on station projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as WMATA, VRE, Amtrak, and/or other rail transit adjacencies preferredFamiliarity with Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project deliveryHiring Salary Range - $100,000 - $130,000. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience.
