MD Anderson's Ultrasound Tech / Breast Imaging Department is one of the nation's premier diagnostic centers dedicated to the early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of breast cancer. Our multidisciplinary team includes radiologists, technologists, nurses, and support staff who work collaboratively to provide timely and precise imaging that supports personalized cancer care. The department offers a full spectrum of advanced breast imaging modalities-including mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, image guided interventional procedures, and cutting edge technologies used in both clinical care and research settings. Shift / hours: Monday - Friday / 0830 - 1700 / rotating on call As a Breast Ultrasound Technologist, you will use your technical expertise, critical thinking, and patient care skills to provide high quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging. You'll support daily operations, maintain equipment standards, assist physicians, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team. Key Responsibilities Technical Excellence u2022 Perform high quality diagnostic breast ultrasound exams-including routine, emergent, portable, biopsy, and intraoperative procedures-in accordance with departmental protocols. u2022 Apply strong knowledge of cross sectional anatomy, pathology, and sonographic imaging techniques. u2022 Acquire, label, and document images accurately; discuss findings with radiologists as needed. u2022 Ensure complete and accurate patient information in all clinical/RIS systems. u2022 Participate in QA activities and report equipment issues promptly. u2022 Support operational flexibility by rotating shifts and taking on call assignments (including holidays). u2022 Maintain productivity and meet established accuracy/error standards. Patient Care u2022 Provide a safe, compassionate, and patient centered imaging experience. u2022 Confirm patient identity and review clinical history prior to imaging. u2022 Recognize signs of distress and respond to clinical emergencies appropriately. u2022 Utilize sterile technique where applicable. u2022 Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care teams. u2022 Notify radiologists immediately about urgent or critical exam findings. u2022 Maintain clean, well stocked exam rooms and assist in department workflow. Compliance & Professional Standards u2022 Maintain required licensure and certifications. u2022 Follow institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies. u2022 Participate in mandatory training, drills, and continuing education. u2022 Document procedures, patient concerns, variances, and biopsy paperwork accurately. u2022 Ensure proper coding and data entry for accurate billing. Operations & Workflow u2022 Contribute to performance improvement initiatives. u2022 Identify workflow and patient experience enhancements. u2022 Manage patient flow efficiently through prioritization and critical thinking. u2022 Support downtime procedures and communicate with leadership during outages. u2022 Report equipment malfunctions and assist in troubleshooting. u2022 Serve as a resource for scheduling, throughput, and section efficiency. Additional Contributions u2022 Act as lead technologist when needed in the supervisor's absence. u2022 Support faculty with research-related imaging or tasks. u2022 Participate in special projects and departmental initiatives. u2022 Work independently with minimal supervision. EDUCATION Required: Graduation from an accredited program of ultrasound technology or radiologic technology. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Related field. WORK EXPERIENCE Preferred: 2 years Experience in diagnostic ultrasound. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Required: RT(S) - Sonography American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Sonography (ARRT-S). Upon Hire or Required: RT(BS) - Breast Sonography American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Breast Sonography (ARRT-BS). Upon Hire or Required: RT(VS) - Vascular Sonography American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-VS). Upon Hire or Required: RVS - Reg Vascular Specialist Cardiovascular Credentialing International Vascular Sonography. Upon Hire or Required: RDMS - Reg Diag Medical Sonographer American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Upon Hire and Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
