JOB REQUIREMENTS: What We Can Achieve Together: The Prescribed Fire GISIntern performs and supports efforts to digitize and map conservationdata in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ThePrescribed Fire GIS Intern will have a focus on prescribed fire records,including decades of historical data. They will scan, digitize, compile,and archive prescribed fire records. They will georeference digitizedmaps, and populate prescribed fire databases for these historicalrecords. They may produce maps and/or other GIS products and reports, orsupport other TNC Wisconsin GIS-related efforts. RESPONSIBILITIES &SCOPE Works under close or infrequent supervision. Work, collaborate,and communicate effectively with colleagues, providing and obtainingneeded information. Duties are performed according to instructions orestablished practices; supervisor will resolve any problems orquestions. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure todisagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. Manage,maintain, and populate databases using computer spatial or tabular basedmanagement skills. This position will require attendance at an interncohort orientation in Madison, Wisconsin on June 4, 2026. May attend anovernight TNC Wisconsin All Staff retreat scheduled for June 15 18,2026. The position is based in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a full-time,12-week summer internship position with an approximate start date ofJune 1, 2026. This position is paid $17.00 per hour. Housing is notprovided, and transportation to and from the office is theresponsibility of the applicant. What You'll Bring: High school diplomaor GED and 6 months of related experience. Experience followinginstructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members. Experienceperforming administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented andnumerical tasks, including data entry and cross-referencing informationfrom multiple sources. Experience, coursework, or other training usingESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or other GIS software. Experience withMicrosoft Word, Excel, and web browsers. Desired QualificationsDemonstrated experience using ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to edit,maintain, and map geospatial data. Demonstrated experiencecross-referencing and compiling information from various sources such aspaper records and digital files. Multi-lingual skills and multi-culturalor cross-cultural experience appreciated. Salary Information: The payfor a candidate selected for this position is $17 per hour.
