Prepares soil/growth medium.Hauls and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, lime and other soilconditions on sod grass and turf areas. Dig, rake, and screen soil. Sowgrass seed and plants sod plugs. Unroll and place sod. Cut, roll andstack sod. Mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling,hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Preparefields/soil for planting. Bending, stooping and kneeling required. Usehand tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers,loppers, and saws. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies.Use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, skidloaders, sod cutters. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, withor without direction. Assist with farm building/field maintenance andrepairs. Repair fences. Must wear assigned personal protective equipmentwhen required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing andboots or other durable foot wear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriatefor work will not be permitted to start work. Apply pesticides,herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants. Apply fertilizers,plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatmentsat the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate and cropconditions. Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workersmay perform duties including boxing, weighing, loading/unloading, andinstallation of sod produced by Farm at various locations. Workers mayassist in loading/unloading of trucks and lifting to a height of 5 feet.Rolls of sod may weigh up to 75 pounds plus or minus depending onmoisture content. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions forlong periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensivewalking. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain,and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun,high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields duringworking hours can range from 10 to over 100 F. Workers may be requiredto work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop fieldoperations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides,herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker'sability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the workrequired with or without reasonable accommodations. Employer-paidpost-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use andafter a worker has an accident at work. Saturday work required. Must beable to lift/carry 75 lbs. All sod installed at job sites isgrown/cultivated by Farm (no outside product), and installed as asubordinate marketing activity to the farming operation (thus qualifyingas secondary agriculture under the FLSA at 29 CFR 780.206). Of the 4H-2A workers requested, all of them are farm workers. Overtime paid forall activities not considered within the scope of the FLSA overtime payexemption. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions toworkers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions andcommunicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routineactivities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic dutiesin a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Workersmust obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be able torecognize, understand and comply with safety, pesticide warning/re-entryand other essential postings. If a sod contract is performed for a Unionor Prevailing Wage job, the employer may require that all employeesinstalling sod at such site take and pass an employer-paid backgroundcheck.Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchenfacilities, all of which are in wo king order, including refrigeration,space for food preparation, cooking accessories and utensils,appliances, and dishwashing facilities so that workers may prepare theirown meals. Kitchen facilities include adequate sinks with hot and coldwater under pressure. Employer will provide transportation once a weekto assure workers access to stores where they can purchase groceries,when the employer is providing cooking and kitchen facilities.
