Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as an Assistant Director for Speech and Swallowing Therapy Services. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Assistant Director of Therapy Services assists the Director in the planning, evaluation and organization of a clinical division of the therapy services department. He/she will also perform advanced/specialized therapy procedures/techniques with patients about 1/3 of their work time. Essential Job Functions:Recommends the hiring, firing of employees for the team. Recommends budget allocations for team to director for staffing and other resourcesCoordinates, approves, and monitors all performance improvement projects for team in accordance with the departmental PI planCompletes performance appraisals and competency validation on assigned employees according to institutional time framesOrients all new employees to the team/department. Consistently pursues feedback about employee satisfaction with UCH and the Therapy DepartmentDevelops new programs identified in annual departmental goals, keeping director informed of progressCollaborates on research opportunities with faculty, department goals, and departmental research coordinatorAssists director and therapy management team in the development, initiation, and monitoring of departmental annual goals. Provides formal reports on accomplishment as requestedOversees clinical education for affiliating PT/PTA or OT studentsDirects and organizes team operations within budget expectations. Monitors activities on monthly level, compiling reports as requiredServes on hospital and departmental committees/task forcesAssumes leadership in the absence of the Director, cross coverage for other management team membersEvaluates patients utilizing the advanced/specialized test and measurements; to determine the therapy problem/level of function and the expected discharge environmentEstablishes a treatment plan based upon the evaluation findings; and the patient/family, the referring practitioner and therapist’s goalsPerforms advanced/specialized therapy techniques and procedures. Consults on difficult cases for staff and referring practitionersDocuments findings; patient progress; and procedures performed according to departmental standardsPerforms other duties as requested by senior management.Required Qualifications:Requires graduation from an approved therapy school (PT or OT).Requires at least 5 yrs clinical experience; and 2 yrs experience in supervision/management. Demonstrated ability to leadRequires the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate the PT/OT care which is age specific/appropriate for the types of patients served.Requires good computer knowledge /skills Requires appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients/families, the multidisciplinary team external contacts.Requires current PT or OT license in the State of Illinois and CPR recognition.Requires specialty board certification and/or advanced degree beyond entry level.
