General SurgeonLocationMann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center4815 N. Assembly St., Spokane, WA 99205Position OverviewThe General Surgeon will provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient surgical care to eligible Veterans at the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. Services must meet or exceed nationally recognized standards of care consistent with the American Board of Surgery (ABS), The Joint Commission (TJC), and VA clinical guidelines.This is a non-personal services role providing direct patient care within a full-scope VA surgical program.Schedule & HoursClinic/OR Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PMFederal holidays observedNo outpatient clinics or surgeries scheduled on VA holidaysScope of PracticeThe General Surgeon will be responsible for providing comprehensive surgical care, including but not limited to:Clinical & Surgical DutiesPerform general surgical procedures consistent with hospital privilegesConduct inpatient and outpatient consultationsProvide pre-operative, operative, and post-operative careParticipate in operating room cases as scheduledCommunicate diagnostic results in accordance with VA policiesProvide discharge education and follow-up instructionsAdhere to all VA medication policies (no sample medications)Administrative Responsibilities (Approx. 20%)Participate in Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement activitiesAttend required service, surgical, and medical staff meetingsComplete OPPE/FPPE documentationMaintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the VA EHRPatient Care ExpectationsTimely consult completion in accordance with VA access standardsCompliance with patient safety, infection control, and risk management protocolsDocumentation of all care in the VA electronic health record systemRequired QualificationsEducation & TrainingMD or DO degree from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residencyBoard CertificationBoard Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Surgery (ABS)LicensureCurrent, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territoryNo history of license restriction, suspension, revocation, or surrenderCertificationsBasic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)Experience & SkillsDemonstrated competency in general surgical proceduresProficiency in electronic health record systemsAbility to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)Strong clinical judgment and professionalismCredentialing & ComplianceMust successfully complete VA credentialing and privileging prior to startMaintain required CME for ongoing certificationComply with VA mandatory training, immunization, and infection control requirementsEmployment StatusContractor-provided physicianNot a VA employeeMust maintain professional liability insuranceArrow ARC supports Veterans Health Administration facilities and offices across the U.S. with health care staffing and program support via the 10-year Integrated Critical Staffing Program (ICSP).
