EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:Do you have roadway and structure inspection experience, strong documentation skills, and the drive to support NCDOT projects while earning and maintaining industry certifications?MBP is looking for a NCDOT Transportation Inspector (Levels 1-4) to support transportation construction projects. Candidates will align to level based on experience, with progressive responsibility from entry-level inspection through lead project inspection and guidance of junior technicians.What You'll Do:Serve on-site to monitor roadway and structure construction for conformance with plans, contracts, specifications, and codes, providing guidance and recommendations to the project team. Coordinate with agency and contractor personnel and act as a key point of contact for field observations and documentation. Oversee project documentation workflows and contribute to monthly reporting and estimates. Utilize client electronic project management systems to track and log materials and test results. Support training and development of junior inspectors and assist with scheduling coordination as needed. Exercise independent judgment within delegated authority while escalating issues appropriately. Responsibilities include:Provide on-site inspection and quality assurance of roadway and structure construction for conformance with plans, contracts, specifications, and applicable codesPerform required materials testingPerform basic surveying and field measurements to check line, grade, and dimensions and advise the contractor regarding discrepanciesCommunicate professionally with agency, contractor, and MBP personnelPrepare and maintain project records, including daily diaries documenting locations of work, workforce, equipment, materials, photos, and inspection reportsPrepare monthly project estimates and associated sketches, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculationsAssist in the oversight, training, and development of a Construction Inspector TraineeVerify that highway work zones and traffic control setups align with current standardsUse the client’s electronic project management software to track, document, and log materials and test reportsRecord or monitor materials received, showing quantities estimated to be required in quantities received, used, and testedCheck materials and material documents; conduct roadway tests; transmit additional samples to the client for verification when requiredProvide customer service and courteous communication to the traveling public, adjacent property owners, and project stakeholdersComplete administrative tasks, including daily timesheets, monthly expense reports, and monthly mileage reportsObtain additional training and certifications as needed and maintain certifications required for assigned inspection dutiesParticipate in company activities, including branch and company meetingsSupport coordination of inspectors’ schedulesRecommend rejection of work or payment for completed work as delegated by the Project Owner Who We Are Looking ForExperience:Construction work experience with understanding of construction means and methods; prior inspection experience in the same or similar type of work as the assigned projectExperience may be in federal, municipal, transportation, ports, or marina projectsLevel II Technician: Minimum four years of relevant experience; able to perform duties without supervision and read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirementsLevel III Technician: Minimum five years of relevant experience; able to perform duties without supervision and read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirementsLevel IV Technician: Minimum seven years of relevant experience; may serve as Lead Project Inspector performing general project oversight and communication with the client and the Contractor, including supervision of lower-level technicians and providing guidance as neededEducation/Knowledge:High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hireBasic mathematics including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric computations based on field measurementsConstruction-related training and/or coursework in road/bridge construction, civil engineering, project management, or materials, or a combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating ability to perform dutiesMaterials, methods, and tools utilized in construction, repair, or renovation for monitored and inspected workPreferred Certifications:NCDOT Concrete (preferred)QMS Roadway (preferred)Conventional Density (preferred)ABS Sampling (preferred)Borrow Pit Sampling (preferred)Level II Erosion and Sediment Control (preferred)Skills and Abilities:Carry out specific inspection assignments and document work progressUse computers and be proficient with Microsoft Office, email, internet navigation, and web-based toolsLearn client and MBP construction management information systems (e.g., SharePoint, HICAMS, MBP’s OnTrack) within one month of hireRead and interpret plans and contract specifications for assigned workApply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustmentsCommunicate inspection issues effectively and responsibly, verbally and in writing, with contractors, owners, sub-consultants, and team membersUse surveying and measurement tools effectively (e.g., survey levels, transits, four-foot levels, lock levels, tapes, measuring wheels, straight edges)Obtain and maintain industry certifications specific to assigned dutiesBend, stoop, kneel, twist, grasp with hands, raise hands above head;
