Description We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Castroville, California. This is a Contract position that will focus on ensuring accurate financial management and compliance within the organization. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting principles and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining efficient and transparent fiscal operations. Responsibilities: u2022 Prepare and manage general ledger entries, financial statements, and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy. u2022 Monitor and analyze budgets, forecast expenditures, and generate detailed financial reports for organizational leadership. u2022 Handle accounts payable and receivable processes, including vendor management and payment approvals. u2022 Assist with grant and fund accounting, ensuring adherence to state and federal compliance standards. u2022 Support audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to information requests. u2022 Process payroll-related accounting activities and reconcile benefit accounts for accuracy. u2022 Collaborate on the development of annual budgets and present financial analyses during board meetings. u2022 Maintain fixed asset records and oversee inventory controls to ensure proper tracking. u2022 Address staff inquiries regarding fiscal policies and account statuses promptly and professionally. u2022 Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulations relevant to public sector entities. Requirements u2022 Bacheloru2019s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. u2022 Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience requiring attention to detail, with preference for experience in school districts or government entities. u2022 Solid understanding of fund accounting principles and practices. u2022 Proficiency in accounting software such as Escape Online or similar platforms, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills. u2022 Exceptional analytical and organizational abilities to manage complex financial data. u2022 Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration. u2022 Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment. u2022 Familiarity with California school district fiscal reporting and grant accounting procedures is a plus.
