We want your knowledge and expertise Job Summary and Qualifications GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The head and neck oncologic registered nurse provides professional nursing care for patients with benign and malignant tumors in the head and neck region following established standards and practices across multiple disciplines. The registered nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgement, and leadership in the anticipation and planning for the care of the head and neck cancer patient. DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: u00b7 Maintaining an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients u00b7 Greeting patients and preparing them for physicianu2019s examination. u00b7 Providing general nursing care to patients as necessary for office treatment. u00b7 Perioperative screening patients for need of additional preoperative anesthesia clearance and cardiac clearance, cessation of anticoagulation. u00b7 Instructing patients in collection of samples and tests. u00b7 Assists with collaborative research development and endeavors. u00b7 Arranging for patient testing and admissions requesting outside scans and pushing into viewable system; i.e. Powershare, PACS, additional imaging modalities. u00b7 Checking rooms daily for necessary supplies. u00b7 Assist with patient procedures including but not limited to: patient procedural consent forms, laryngoscopic procedures, biopsies, complex wound care, wound debridement, blood draws, etc. u00b7 Responding to and triaging incoming telephone calls and patient advice requests. u00b7 Assists with and manages DME supplies and home health order requests, dynamic medical leave requests, insurance requests, and authorization requests by the patient and their families for extensive illness, cancer care policies, and death policies. u00b7 Collaborating patient care across the multi-disciplinary clinic and community referral base for the complex oncologic patient u00b7 Appropriately delegate and coordinate day-to-day tasks as related to patient care with the clinic staff, including front office staff and medical assistants. u00b7 Instructing patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. u00b7 Develops and provides patient and staff education with regards to head and neck cancer inpatient and outpatient management to improve outcomes. u00b7 Maintaining and reviewing patientsu2019 records and other pertinent information u00b7 Posting tests and examination results. u00b7 Maintaining patient confidentiality. u00b7 Administering medications in accordance with physician orders. u00b7 Maintaining current knowledge to assure a safe working environment and demonstrating practical application of all policies and procedures relative to safety and infection control. u00b7 Utilizing universal precautions in any potential contact with patient body fluids or used patient supplies that may be contaminated with patient body fluids. u00b7 Projecting a positive image of the facility in all interactions and supporting effective team functioning. u00b7 Practice and adhere to the u201cCode of Conductu201d philosophy and u201cMission and Value Statementu201d. EDUCATION: u00b7 Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required. EXPERIENCE: u00b7 A minimum of two years RN experience required. One to three years of previous oncology experience is preferred. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: u00b7 Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations.
