Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) u2013 School-Based Location: Phoenix, AZ Employment Type: Full-Time Onsite Position Overview We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to provide occupational therapy services to students with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses in a school-based setting. This role supports studentsu2019 independence, functional participation, and skill development across academic and daily school activities. The COTA works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and collaborates closely with teachers, therapists, and multidisciplinary team members to implement individualized treatment plans focused on sensory processing, fine motor skills, adaptive functioning, and school participation. Key Responsibilities + Provide occupational therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist + Assist with student evaluations and contribute to individualized treatment planning + Deliver individual and group therapy targeting sensory-motor, functional, and developmental needs + Support sensory regulation, fine motor development, and adaptive skill acquisition + Provide consultative support to teachers, staff, and families regarding student needs + Assist with adaptive equipment use and strategies, including feeding supports when applicable + Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings related to student progress and care planning + Support student transitions and promote constructive responses to intervention + Complete progress notes, data collection, and required documentation + Assist in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) + Attend staff meetings, therapy department meetings, and professional development activities + Support staff training related to sensory processing, fine motor development, and functional skills + Maintain accurate records and comply with program policies and procedures + Perform additional duties as assigned Required Skills and Abilities + Strong communication skills with students, families, educators, and clinical teams + Ability to complete educational and clinical documentation accurately and timely + Effective problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills + Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, school-based environment Physical Requirements + Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and hands-on student support + Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently, and up to 40 pounds occasionally + May assist with lifting or supporting student body weight with appropriate assistance + Vision and hearing sufficient to ensure safe and effective student interaction Work Environment + School-based setting with moderate to loud noise levels + May work with students who display challenging or physically aggressive behaviors + Reasonable accommodations may be provided to support essential job functions Minimum Qualifications + Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) program + Eligibility for NBCOT (AOTCB) certification + Eligible for or holding an Arizona State COTA license + Ability to pass fingerprint clearance and background requirements Job Details + Full-Time + Onsite + School-based schedule If you are a COTA who values student-centered care, collaboration, and functional skill development in a school setting , we encourage you to apply and learn more about this opportunity.
