The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring a Technical Engineer II to join our Bridge Section located in Headquarters, Boise, ID. The incumbent will lead bridge inspections, perform engineering analysis and mentor others. They will also serve as the Senior Inspection Team Leader in the Bridge Section. The Technical Engineer 2 will serve as a statewide subject matter resource for the Bridge Section. The successful candidate will have superior time management skills, be a self-starter, and have the ability to work well with others of differing viewpoints. Note: Some statewide travel is required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Bridge Inspection and Mentoring + Lead inventory, routine, special, NSTM, in-depth inspections on state system highway bridges in accordance with 23 CFR Subpart C - National Bridge Inspection Standards. This will require confined space inspection work as well as utilizing the inventory of state owned Under Bridge Inspection Trucks + Input inspection data into ITD’s electronic bridge management system + Perform QC on ITD inspections and reports. Perform QA on consultant inspections and reports + Frequent travel with overnight stays for a week at a time + Attend periodic training and conferences + Provide input into statewide bridge preservation and restoration programs + Coordinate with district staff for inspection work and findings + Coordinate inspection staff work with team members + Mentor less experienced ITD staff + Provide training to ITD staff as needed on AASHTO code changes, policy changes, etc. + Manage inspection contracts completed by consultants when needed + Load Rating Analysis + Perform bridge load ratings + Provide independent and quality control check of others work + Coordinate phases of engineering work with load rating team members + Review load ratings completed by consultants + Manage load rating contracts completed by consultants when needed Assist in the Development of Bridge Policies and Procedures + Review AASHTO code updates and comment on ITD’s behalf + Assist in the development and implementation of ITD bridge load rating policies and procedures MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Licensure: + Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE), or eligibility for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12 + Valid Driver’s license Experience: + Coordinating with state and local government operations in one of the specific engineering specialties described below + Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit + Writing engineering reports and related correspondence + Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses + Making oral presentations to groups, relative to the merits of engineering applications To learn more about the department, please visit the ITD website.
