Position SummaryThe University Registrar plays a critical university-wide leadership role in advancing institutional goals by ensuring that academic infrastructure-particularly student records, registration, and institutional student systems-is aligned with the university's mission to support timely graduation, reduce barriers to student progress, and uphold the integrity of the academic experience. This position collaborates with academic leadership, faculty, and administrative partners across the institution to ensure that systems and policies are responsive to the evolving needs of faculty, students, and the institution. The Registrar reports to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.Within the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Registrar supports students and faculty by providing the tools needed to review academic progress, create class schedules, and successfully register for classes. The Registrar plays a key role in aligning registrar functions with broader academic and student success strategies, ensuring that academic operations are student-centered, data-informed, and equity-driven.Essential FunctionsThe Registrar leads the Office of the Registrar, overseeing 22 benefitted staff, six student employees, and a combined budget of $2.2 million. Responsibilities include:Academic Records & Registration ManagementAdminister institutional registration systems encompassing more than 275,000 course registration transactions annuallyManage transcripts, grades, enrollment and degree verifications, and student record reportingCertify all undergraduate degrees; post undergraduate and graduate credentials in Banner (DU's Student Information System); produce physical and electronic diplomas and certificatesAdminister transfer credit and study abroad credit evaluation on behalf of the faculty for undergraduate programsCurriculum & Academic Systems AdministrationAdminister institutional curriculum administrative processes, course approvals, and publication of DU bulletins (catalogs)Administer institutional student technology systems, including Banner, student success CRM (Salesforce), registration and degree audit systems, and related platformsDevelop and implement degree audit systems and evaluation processesCourse & Classroom ManagementSchedule over 14,000 course sections annuallyManage 118 classrooms across campus; develop scheduling policies and guidelines for academic spacesCoordinate room assignments and optimize classroom utilizationCompliance & Regulatory AdministrationEnsure compliance with FERPA, Financial Value Transparency/Gainful Employment reporting, and State Authorization requirementsAdminister regulatory compliance and education benefits for Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense tuition support programsAdminister academic eligibility processes for Division I and Club Team athletics programs, ensuring compliance with NCAA rules and certification requirementsInnovation & Strategic InitiativesSupport units in the development of micro-credentials and badges, including academic badges, co-curricular badges, and credentials for faculty, staff, and student developmentLead strategic planning and implementation of registrar services aligned with institutional prioritiesPartner with Office of the Chancellor to oversee, staff, and implement university Commencement ceremoniesServe as liaison to university Bookstore; oversee course materials ordering processDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiencyLeadership & CollaborationProvide operational and strategic counsel to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on curricular, policy, and procedural matters affecting academic operations and student successProvide strategic leadership and vision for the Office of the RegistrarFoster collaborative partnerships across academic affairs, s udent services, enrollment management, and institutional researchProvide leadership support to the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Councils, advancing curricular review processes and strategic governance coordinationSupervise, mentor, and develop professional staff to build organizational capacityManage departmental budget and allocate resources effectivelyPerform other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent relational, communication, academic, and administrative skills with the ability to articulate mission and vision and develop implementation strategiesStrong interpersonal and organizational skills with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding student serviceAbility to effectively communicate with students, faculty, administrators, and external agencies through multiple modalitiesProven ability to work with and influence others to achieve operational requirements in a collaborative team environmentExpertise in managing information system solutions and expansions to support high-quality, cost-efficient servicesCapacity to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while achieving goals and meeting deadlines under pressureSkill in assessing problems, identifying appropriate actions, and communicating solutions to stakeholdersKnowledge of registrar office and enrollment management best practices, accreditation requirements, and emerging trends in higher educationOversight of federal financial aid regulations and veteran's benefits complianceUnderstanding of NCAA rules, student-athlete eligibility certification, and athletic compliance requirementsRequired QualificationsMaster's degree in student affairs, higher education, business, humanities, sciences, or a closely related field that emphasizes analytical and critical thinking skillsTen years of progressive experience in a registrar's office, enrollment management, student services, or related field at a four-year regionally accredited institution with a complex blend of undergraduate and graduate programs. Five of these years must be at a senior administrative level with supervisory and staff development experience (associate director or equivalent level and above)Ten years of direct supervisory experience of full-time employeesPreferred QualificationsEarned doctoral degree in higher education administration, education, student affairs, counseling, or related fieldExperience providing leadership to an Office of the Registrar at a regionally accredited, complex college or universityTrack record of establishing effective collaborative relationships that bridge the Office of the Registrar with other campus areasExperience developing and overseeing budgets with demonstrated fiscal responsibility and strategic resource allocationExperience in regional accreditation practicesWorking EnvironmentTeam-oriented, collaborative, and professionally supportive environmentCulture of engagement that challenges the status quo to achieve the highest levels of performance and service qualityStandard office environment with unexpected interruptions occurring frequentlyModerate to high stress level with quiet to moderate noise levelsPhysical ActivitiesAbility to sit and work at a computer for extended periodsOccasional movement about the office and campus with capability of transporting objects up to 20 poundsW ork ScheduleMonday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University's flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work.
