The Dr. Cata Research Laboratory is seeking highly motivated candidates interested in learning, coordinating, and conducting clinical research within the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. This fellowship offers comprehensive, hands-on training in the design, implementation, and execution of clinical research studies, with a strong emphasis on perioperative outcomes, pain management, and oncology-related investigations. The laboratory is currently conducting several clinical trials, providing the successful candidate with extensive opportunities to collaborate with faculty anesthesiologists, surgeons, research coordinators, statisticians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams across the department. Fellows will be actively involved in all phases of clinical research, including protocol development, IRB submissions, patient recruitment and consent, data collection and management, regulatory compliance, and preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. A key ongoing project in the laboratory includes a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating the effect of perioperative methadone versus placebo on postoperative cancer-related pain and recovery outcomes. Through participation in this and other trials, the fellow will gain in-depth exposure to analgesic clinical trials, perioperative oncology research, and outcomes-based research methodologies.
