Position Summary: Consistent with Penn Medicine Hospital University of Pennsylvaniau2019s mission, vision, and values; the Chaplain provides compassionate and respectful spiritual care to patients, families, and staff. This role supports holistic well-being and human flourishing during times of illness, crisis, ethical complexity, and loss. The Chaplain works collaboratively and pro-actively with the interdisciplinary care team to promote resilience and patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities: u00b7 Serve as a warm, welcoming, and trustworthy presence, establishing meaningful connections with patients, families, and staff. u00b7 Provide spiritual care and comfort across diverse belief systems, honoring individual spiritual beliefs and practices while supporting holistic health and well-being. u00b7 Offer immediate emotional and spiritual support during crises, including trauma, grief, ethical dilemmas, and sudden or catastrophic changes in condition. u00b7 Assist patients, families, and staff in navigating emotional and spiritual distress related to poor prognosis, irreversible loss, overwhelming circumstances, and end-of-life concerns. u00b7 Identify spiritual and emotional factors that may directly or indirectly affect health outcomes and communicate relevant findings clearly and professionally to the healthcare team through the electronic medical record (EMR). u00b7 Make daily rounds on assigned units to assess spiritual needs, provide proactive support, and respond to referrals in a timely manner. u00b7 Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, compassionate care. Required Skills and Attributes: u00b7 Demonstrated ability to provide calm, compassionate presence in high-stress and emotionally complex situations. u00b7 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity to cultural, spiritual, and religious diversity. u00b7 Comfort working in acute care, trauma-informed, and grief-focused settings. u00b7 Ability to document spiritual assessments and interventions clearly and appropriately in the EMR. Education or Equivalent Experience: + Master of Arts or Science in Religious Studies, Divinity, Spirituality, Humanities or equivalent experience (Required) + 4 completed units of CPE under the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) (Required) + 2+ years practice in pastoral care and experience working in a pluralistic setting (Required) We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
