Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities The Perioperative Clinic Coordinator Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned surgical patients. The Perioperative Clinic Coordinator is responsive to patient and provider requests and ensures customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of surgical procedures. They are an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate appropriate patient assessments preoperatively. This includes coordination of anesthesia evaluations, validation of testing as ordered by the surgeon and adjunct providers, transportation assistance, lodging arrangements, identifying potential roadblocks to scheduling patients for procedures and alerting the surgeon and operative staff, assisting patients in planning for discharge care, and patient and family education. Patient and family education is focused on overall plan of care, preoperative instructions for transport to and from the procedure and specific individualized physical preparation needed prior to surgery. The Perioperative Clinic Coordinator acts as the patient advocate and answers patient inquiries and resolves patient concerns. Collaborates with specialty clinic coordinators, Operating Room (OR) staff, anesthesia providers, and adjunct providers as needed to ensure complete preparation for the surgical patient. Responsible for maintaining metrics related to clinic performance goals and objectives and participates in continuous quality improvement projects. Makes caring for the Veteran their priority while in the work setting and demonstrates customer service principles in all aspects of work. Practices within the guidelines of the policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), and standards of care relative to the continuity of care for pre-operative surgical candidates. The duties of the RN- Care Coordinator include but are not limited to- Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Manages the care of patients, while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed. Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify, implement and evaluate patient care needs. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved. Provides and directs others in Veteran/patient driven care that optimizes the patient's experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for a team of patients. Maintains professional boundaries to protect patient vulnerabilities and act in the best interest of the patient. Role models and displays ethical behavior. Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and models appropriate action by providing and directing others in the provision of care following established policies and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Models' high reliability principles and ICARE values to improve patient outcomes. Promotes collaborative behavior and team efforts. Is confident of abilities, effectively initiates solutions and, is alert to new opportunities, techniques, and approaches. Shares knowledge and learning opportunities that enhance current nursing practice for self and others.
