JOB REQUIREMENTS: General Summary The Packaging Engineer is responsiblefor designing and developing Packaging products and solutions that meetcustomer's needs and specifications. Will coordinate customer needs andexpectations, with sales strategy and manufacturing operationsconsistent with cost, profit, and productivity objectives. Will developand utilize knowledge of materials such as lumber, plywood, foam,corrugated, and metal fabrication to create Packaging products that willbe manufactured by UFP and utilized by our customers. Works undergeneral direction of the Packaging Design Manager; exercises discretionand judgment on work priority on a regular basis; and a wide degree ofcreativity is expected. Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesCommunicates with customers, vendors and co-workers to develop long-termworking relationships. Based on customer needs, designs structuralpackaging suitable for the purpose intended. Offers alternative designsof existing packaging and alternate material solutions. Developsdrawings and specifications that meet customer requirements.Specifications are used in the manufacturing of the industrial productsMonitors quality of products being produced to ensure they meet customerexpectations while maintaining acceptable margins. Costs products,develops bills of materials and ensures that appropriate information isentered into the system and maintained. Assists in the new productdevelopment process. Assist in forecasting inventory requirements withinarea of responsibility. Drive efficiency in product manufacturingthrough design methods and assist production team in efficiencyinitiatives where applicable Monitors the established efficiencies andquality standards, and assists in corrective action as required.Monitors output, cuts/yields, and scrap to ensure efficient resourceutilization and initiates corrective action as required within area ofresponsibility. Assists developing source contacts and relationships forpackaging raw materials in cooperation with the Purchasing department.Prepares various reports as required. Performs other duties as required.Job Specifications Knowledge Bachelor's degree in PackagingEngineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering orequivalent non-degree experience is required. Working knowledge ofmanufacturing operations; 2 years' experience in alumber/plywood/packaging manufacturing environment preferred. Workingknowledge of panel and lumber grades, etc. Working knowledge of lumbermath and business math Full understanding of cuts and yields Proficiencyin the use of MS Excel/spreadsheets is required; working knowledge ofCAD software...
