Job Title: Assistant Vice President, State Government Relations Location: Connecticut preferred; other locations negotiable based on candidate qualifications. Reports to: Vice President and Head of State Government Relations Overview of the Role: As part of the State Government Relations Unit within the Government and Industry Relations Group, the Assistant Vice President, State Government Relations is responsible for advocacy in support of the priorities of The Hartford Insurance Group, Inc. (The Hartford) _._ The role involves cultivating and maintaining relationships with regulators, lawmakers and public officials, monitoring and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments, and ensuring that the companyu2019s public policy positions are effectively communicated. The implementation of a comprehensive advocacy strategy includes understanding how regulatory and legislative policies affect The Hartford and the insurance industry. Effectively managing internal coordination with business segments and corporate functional areas on public policy issues is also a key part of the role. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management: + Partner with Government and Industry Relations colleagues, business units, and corporate functions to develop and implement strategies for state public policy and political engagement aligned with company objectives. + Advise management on public policy and political issues by providing a clear view of the legislative and regulatory landscape, challenges, and opportunities. Specific Responsibilities: Advocacy and Policy Development + Develop messaging on key regulatory and public policy matters and conduct outreach aligned with business goals. + Identify emerging public policy issues, develop strategies to influence outcomes, and prepare internal partners for potential changes. + Coordinate development of public policy positions across business lines and corporate partners. Relationship Management and Representation + Build and maintain relationships with state decision-makers, including legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders. + Represent The Hartford in meetings with policymakers, regulators, trade associations, and industry coalitions to communicate policy positions and priorities. + Prepare management for high-profile meetings with lawmakers and regulators. Monitoring and Analysis + Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments, providing regular updates and guidance to management. Strategic Counsel and Engagement + Provide strategic counsel to management and business leaders on state affairs and political engagement. + Execute advocacy campaigns, coalition-building initiatives, and engagement activities to advance public policy goals. Qualifications: + Bacheloru2019s degree in public policy, political science, or related field; law degree or graduate work preferred. + Minimum 10 years of experience in state government relations, including work with state legislatures, trade associations, or advocacy organizations. + Deep knowledge of public policy issues affecting large Property and Casualty insurers. + Proven leadership and ability to drive change within a large, matrixed organization. + Strong relationships with state policymakers and stakeholders. + In-depth understanding of legislative and regulatory processes and the state political landscape. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex policy issues to diverse audiences. + Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills. + Demonstrated success in advancing advocacy priorities in a dynamic environment. + Extensive knowledge of state administration and regulatory agencies. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartfordu2019s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
