Job Description

Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team. The Lymphoma and Myeloma department is renowned internationally for the diagnosis, treatment and research of diseases focused on lymphoma, myeloma and blood disorders that affect the body's blood and lymph systems. From caring for patients, to conducting cutting-edge clinical and translational research, our faculty and staff are dedicated to finding a cure for patients diagnosed with lymphoma or myeloma. The ideal candidate will be a licensed APRN or PA with prior Oncology experience. They will bring a strong background in Oncology, demonstrating both technical expertise and compassionate patient care. Candidates with Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Stem Cell experience, in an inpatient setting, preferred. The schedule will be 4 days per week, 10 hour shifts, with rotating weekends. KEY FUNCTIONS Patient Assessment u2022 Assesses health status by performing the medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment. u2022 Makes daily rounds on each patient and reports findings and test results to attending physician. u2022 Monitors laboratory, clinical radiographic and procedural data for daily rounds. u2022 Reviews the findings of the history and physical, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, plan for further diagnosis and therapeutic management as outlined in collaboration with the attending physician. Intervention/Evaluation u2022 Prevents, minimizes and manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel. u2022 Provides health care throughout the disease process: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative and terminal care. u2022 Schedules consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, future appointments for patients in coordination with the attending physician. Performance of diagnostic/therapeutic procedures u2022 Performance of medical procedures may include: obtaining blood form arterial and venous punctures including central lines; venous catheters and heparin locks; administration of drugs as needed including intravenous, intraarterial, intrathecal, intraventricular, intrapleural and intraperitoneal; lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, multiple bone marrow aspirations, paracentesis or other medical procedures under the supervision of an M.D. u2022 Are certified and perform outpatient and/or inpatient Bone Marrow Aspiration (BMA) procedures. Educator u2022 Provides health education to the patient and his/her family. u2022 Participates in formal and informal instruction of nursing students, professional nurses and other health professionals. Researcher u2022 Contributes to research efforts of department/section. u2022 Applies pertinent research to clinical practice. EDUCATION Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse u2022 Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. u2022 Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Physician Assistant u2022 Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. EXPERIENCE Preferred: u2022 At least 1 year of Oncology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider. u2022 Prior Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Stem Cell experience u2022 Prior experience in inpatient setting. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse All of the following: u2022 Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. u2022 Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100). u2022 MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. Physician Assistant All of the following: u2022 PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. u2022 Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. u2022 MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
