Job Description The Business Unit Manager (BUMa) is responsible for maintaining positive operating margin at the laboratory level and for meeting and exceeding the annual budget. Supervises all laboratory personnel and provides leadership and direction as needed. Responsible for ensuring compliance and integration of facility operation with corporate and regulatory policies and procedures. The Business Unit Manager will serve as a liaison with corporate business partners and will champion Company policies, vision, and mission. Business Unit Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following : u00b7 Lead team, schedule, and train employees u00b7 Ensure adherence to highest quality and efficiency standards in laboratory operations u00b7 Ensure coverage and performance u00b7 Foster morale and teamwork u00b7 Demonstrates and promotes the company vision u00b7 Regular attendance and punctuality u00b7 Manage the technical conduct, quality control, and related record keeping of all analytical evaluations performed u00b7 Responsible for the supervision, organization, and coordination of all technical activities of personnel within the principles of sound scientific endeavors, business economy, and the professional development of subordinate employees. u00b7 Provide the necessary planning, organization, direction, and control to meet the goals of the company. u00b7 Ensure that all pertinent company health, safety, and environmental programs are adhered to and documentation is maintained. u00b7 Establish and maintain professional business relationships with clients, industry officials, and peers. u00b7 Assist in the generation of marketing strategies, prepare comprehensive technical work proposals, and maintain an influential position in establishing business expansion plans. u00b7 Provide input toward the financial growth and development of the company. u00b7 Coordinate business activities with the Business Unit Managers from the other locations to ensure customer expectations are met without duplication of testing activities. u00b7 Responsible for the overall operational success of the laboratory, which includes, but is not limited to: budgeting, making decisions on capital expenses, managing senior staff, attending to major client needs, revenue & profit growth, and cost control. u00b7 Oversee daily operations including: laboratory, quality, logistic, and managerial duties. u00b7 Represent the laboratory in technical meetings. u00b7 Participate with the Sales/Marketing team in the preparation and quotation of major technical studies. u00b7 Propose major investments to company executives. u00b7 Ensure that the laboratory expenses are on track with the annual budget. u00b7 Approve major expenses and control the costs of the laboratory within established company guidelines. u00b7 Analyze monthly laboratory indicators (operating and labor costs, turnaround time, productivity, etc.). u00b7 Verify that company employment policies and procedures are followed correctly. u00b7 Perform annual performance reviews for direct reporting personnel. Coordinate and review annual reviews of other lab personnel. u00b7 Handle employee relation issues as per company guidelines and with the support of Human Resources. u00b7 Coordinate the interaction between the different laboratory departments. u00b7 Understand and follow each Quality System document relevant to employment responsibilities, e.g., methods, SOPs, etc. Propose changes to documents and approve documents when required u00b7 Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Education: u00b7 Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other related degree concentration, or equivalent directly-related experience (two years of directly related industry experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in related major) u00b7 MS Experience: u00b7 At least 10 years of supervisory experience u00b7 At least 10 years professional experience in laboratory operations with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory operations or large/multi-department/team leadership with profit/loss accountability - $5M+ Net Sales or equivalent size operation. Demonstrated success in improving operational, profit, quality and safety performance. u00b7 Familiarity with laboratory operations and services u00b7 Familiarity with EPA, DOT, OSHA, and DOL regulations u00b7 Excellent verbal and written skills u00b7 Strong customer relations skills u00b7 Ability to manage a business at a profit/loss responsibility level u00b7 Ability to control operating budgets u00b7 Ability to develop and enforce policies and operating practices u00b7 Ability to prioritize and delegate responsibilities u00b7 Ability to successfully handle contract and other negotiations u00b7 Strong decision-making abilities u00b7 Problem-solving abilities Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
