General Summary: The Director of Business Continuity and Emergency Management is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and sustainment of the Henry Ford Healthu2019s Emergency Management and Business Continuity Program in alignment with the organizationu2019s strategic vision. The Director has a matrixed reporting structure to the Chief Quality Officer and Medical Director, System Emergency Management. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and the adoption of best practices. The Director develops and manages policies and programs to prepare the organization for significant disruptions while ensuring consistent and effective responses to critical events across the enterprise. As a subject matter expert, the Director oversees emergency preparedness, operational continuity, resilience through mitigation, incident response, and recovery efforts for Henry Ford Health. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions: u00b7 Lead the development, implementation, and execution of operational business u00b7 continuity and emergency preparedness programs. u00b7 Collaborate with leadership to set strategic direction and integrate emergency management efforts across the organization. u00b7 Liaise with business units and service lines to align resilience strategy with organizational initiatives. u00b7 Oversee strategic education and training initiatives for senior leaders, providers and u00b7 frontline staff in incident management principles and identified top hazards. u00b7 Design and implement system-wide tabletop, functional and full-scale exercises. u00b7 Maintain emergency response technology, including the Mass Notification System and Electronic Incident Management and Business Continuity tools. u00b7 May serve as a subject matter expert; chair or hold voting board positions on internal and external committees and workgroups at the regional, state or federal level. u00b7 Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as CMS and Joint Commission accreditation requirements. u00b7 Research and recommend best practices for emergency preparedness and response. u00b7 Establish and maintain communications with leaders, physicians, and key stakeholders across the organization. u00b7 Lead the organizationu2019s crisis response and recovery efforts with emotional intelligence and executive influence. u00b7 Delegate tasks to team members as appropriate. u00b7 Prepare concise and effective written and oral communications for varied audiences. Program Management: u00b7 Oversee the program framework, including hazard vulnerability analysis, training, exercises, and Emergency Operations Plan updates. u00b7 Ensure governance of emergency preparedness programs aligns with organizational goals. u00b7 Facilitate senior leadership involvement and support of the program through participation, training, exercise and demonstrated benefits. u00b7 Build relationships with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders to ensure engagement in preparedness efforts. u00b7 Facilitate the development of a Hazardous Materials/CBRNE Decontamination program and related teams to meet OSHA guidance. Personnel Management: u00b7 Lead a high performing team (15+ FTEu2019s) including day-to-day guidance, ongoing positive reinforcement, and constructive feedback. u00b7 Monitor performance and manage team growth opportunities. Project Management: u00b7 Oversee the implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Business Resiliency Initiatives. u00b7 Collaborate with enterprise senior leadership, Chief Quality Officer and Emergency Management Medical Director to set strategic direction for emergency preparedness and resilience initiatives. u00b7 Develop an annual program calendar and track progress on goals. u00b7 Develop an Enterprise Emergency Operations Plan including support and functional annexes to ensure compliance with CMS and Joint Commission standards. u00b7 Develop business continuity and resilience strategies, including business impact analysis. Coordinate with Information Technology to match operational downtime planning initiatives in partnership with IT downtime related activities. u00b7 Maintain emergency contact information and the Enterprise Mass Notification System. u00b7 Conduct regular communications related drills and exercises, ensuring resilient communications systems are in place. Drills/Training: u00b7 Develop and manage annual training and exercise plans, coordinating tabletop, functional, and full-scale exercises. u00b7 Document lessons learned and implement improvements based on after-action reports u00b7 Organize Safety & Emergency Preparedness Week and other training events to enhance staff knowledge. Financial Management: u00b7 Oversee program budgeting, capital requests, and inventory management related to emergency preparedness. u00b7 Identify and manage grant opportunities for emergency preparedness initiatives. External Liaison: u00b7 Represent Henry Ford Health in external groups and regional planning committees, including Healthcare Coalitions and Local Emergency Planning Committees. Liaise with local, regional, and private-sector agencies for the facilitation of relationship building. Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: u00b7 Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills. u00b7 Experience in emergency preparedness, particularly within healthcare settings. u00b7 Proficiency in Microsoft Office and emergency preparedness planning software. Education/Experience Required: u00b7 Masteru2019s degree in healthcare administration, emergency management, public safety, or a related field from an accredited institution. u00b7 7-10+ years of progressively responsible experience in business continuity, emergency management, public safety or healthcare operations. u00b7 Valid Michigan Driveru2019s License. Preferred Qualifications: u00b7 Board certifications (e.g., PEM, CHEP, CHSP, CBCP, or other recognized designations). u00b7 Experience in leadership roles (e.g., Emergency Manager, Safety Officer, Business Continuity Manager) in a large healthcare organization. u00b7 Experience working in an academic medical setting to implement regulatory and accreditation requirements in a timely manner. u00b7 Strong leadership skills in staff recruitment, training, and motivation, with a focus on fostering a service-oriented environment. u00b7 Active licensure (e.g., RN, EMT-P, or similar) in the State of Michigan. u00b7 Current or former military, public safety, disaster or Incident Management Team experience.
