Job Description A large financial organization is seeking a Mainframe Engineer for a contract opportunity through the end of the year. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and performance of mainframe systems through expert-level engineering and support. Theyu2019ll help lead efforts in system design, development, and optimization while collaborating across teams to drive modernization and efficiency. Key Responsibilities: u2022u2003Design & Development u2022u2003Develop and maintain COBOL and other mainframe-based applications. u2022u2003Create and optimize JCL scripts for batch processing and job scheduling. u2022u2003Build and maintain automation scripts for deployment and system monitoring. u2022u2003System Configuration & Support u2022u2003Configure and support z/OS environments, including subsystems like CICS, IMS, DB2, and MQ. u2022u2003Provide Tier 3 support for incident resolution and root cause analysis. u2022u2003Implement and maintain disaster recovery and contingency plans. u2022u2003Performance & Capacity Management u2022u2003Monitor system performance using SMF, RMF, and other diagnostic tools. u2022u2003Analyze trends and forecast capacity needs to ensure optimal resource utilization. u2022u2003Tune applications and system parameters to improve throughput and reduce latency. u2022u2003Infrastructure Planning & Roadmapping u2022u2003Participate in strategic planning for mainframe modernization and cloud integration. u2022u2003Document and publish technology roadmaps and standards for development tools. u2022u2003Lead cross-functional initiatives involving application migrations and upgrades. u2022u2003Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing u2022u2003Serve as a technical advisor to development and operations teams. u2022u2003Build relationships with vendors and industry peers to stay current on emerging technologies. u2022u2003Create and maintain detailed documentation for systems, processes, and configurations.
