On-Call Vertical Video Producer

The On-Call Vertical Video Producer is an experienced, social-first content creator who is comfortable both filming and editing short-form video content and appearing on-camera for hosted explainers, greenscreen videos, and other social-first formats. This role is part of KQEDu2019s Audience Development team and is not a position within the newsroom. Reporting to the Social Media Strategist, this role partners with teams across KQED to create engaging, audience-centric content that reflects KQEDu2019s mission to connect Bay Area audiences to the region and to each other. Essential Functions: u25cf Produce 3u20134 high-quality vertical videos per week for @KQEDu2019s Instagram and TikTok channels, including ideation, scripting, filming, editing, and publishing. u25cf Serve as an on-camera host for social-first videos, including greenscreen explainers, walk-and-talk videos, and topical breakdowns. u25cf Edit short-form videos quickly and creatively, incorporating captions, sound, pacing, transitions, and visual elements native to TikTok and Instagram. u25cf Film and edit yourself in a variety of settings using smartphone equipment, lighting, and greenscreen. u25cf Pitch and develop social-first vertical video content on topics focused on the nine Bay Area counties, including: u25cb Bay Area culture explainers u25cb Bay Area history explainers u25cb Bay Curious & The Bay podcast content u25cb KQED Live and other local event-driven content u25cb Trend-driven, relatable videos u25cb Lifestyle and activity recommendations u25cf Stay current on TikTok and Instagram trends, audio, and memes to inform content ideation. u25cf Collaborate with editorial, marketing, and program teams to ensure content and scripts are fact-checked, brand-aligned, and timely. u25cf Use analytics and social performance data to inform content strategy and optimize videos for engagement and reach. u25cf Create content that meets accessibility standards, including captions and clear audio. u25cf Other duties as assigned. Knowledge/Experience Required: u25cf Comfortable appearing on-camera in hosted or greenscreen formats for TikTok and Instagram. u25cf Strong on-camera communication and script-writing skills with the ability to explain topics clearly, conversationally, and with audience appeal. u25cf Strong video editing skills in mobile apps (CapCut, Instagram/TikTok editors) or desktop equivalents (Premiere Pro, Final Cut) with the ability to edit quickly and in a style aligned with platform best practices. u25cf Ability to film oneself using smartphone equipment, basic lighting, and greenscreen setups. u25cf Working knowledge of major social media platforms, especially TikTok and Instagram. u25cf Ability to research, synthesize, and interpret information quickly. u25cf Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. u25cf Ability to work independently, remotely, and flexibly. u25cf Portfolio or links to social video work demonstrating on-camera presence, editing skills, and social-first storytelling required. Knowledge/Experience Desired: u25cf Experience with workflow tools such as Google Workspace, Airtable, and Slack. u25cf Familiarity with or interest in public media. u25cf Strong visual instincts and a sharp eye for design and aesthetics. u25cf Experience using Canva or similar tools to create social graphics. u25cf Curiosity about digital audience behavior and social trends. u25cf Motion graphics or animation experience is a plus. u25cf Ability to create content that resonates with diverse Bay Area audiences. u25cf A love for the Bay Area and its stories.
