Baton Rouge, LA, USA Geotechnical Engineering Full Time Position Summary Thompson Engineering is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with 10+ years of experience and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license to lead and grow our geotechnical engineering services. This role is ideal for a highly experienced engineer who combines strong technical expertise with project management, client leadership, and mentoring capabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex geotechnical investigations, analyses, and designs while supporting business development and guiding junior staff. Key Responsibilities + Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from proposal through completion + Plan and oversee subsurface investigations, including field exploration and laboratory testing programs + Perform and review geotechnical analyses and design for: + Foundations (shallow and deep) + Earth retaining structures + Slopes and embankments + Pavements and earthwork + Prepare, review, and seal geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations + Provide technical oversight and quality control for geotechnical deliverables + Serve as a technical advisor to clients, project managers, and design teams + Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation and client meetings + Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff + Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, civil, and construction services Required Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's preferred) + Professional Engineer (PE) license (required) + 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience + Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, design methods, and industry standards + Experience managing multiple projects and budgets simultaneously + Proven ability to produce high-quality technical reports and recommendations + Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills Preferred Qualifications + Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering + Experience working on transportation, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects + Familiarity with regional soil conditions and local/state regulatory requirements + Experience supporting or leading business development initiatives
