Join our team as we help shape the future. u200b The Staff Attorney is charged with the following responsibilities: Responsible for handling litigation. Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients. Prepare pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with supervision. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures. Responsible for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions. Work-related travel and parking is reimbursed. u2022 Volunteer Time off + Donation Matching Key Responsibilities: u2022 Develop and execute strategic legal defenses for Workers' Compensation cases. u2022 Manage a case load of between 90-100 cases in chief (including master and companion files) u2022 Conduct thorough legal research and analysis of complex issues. u2022 Draft and argue petitions. u2022 Represent clients in hearing, trials, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions. u2022 Collaborate with Claims Partners to drive favorable outcomes. u2022 Participate in team huddles and claims file reviews to enhance legal strategy and client service Qualifications: u2022 Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in the state of California, in good standing. u2022 Legal internship or Law Clerk experience preferred. u2022 Familiarity with Workers' Compensation a plus u2022 Excellent legal research and writing skills. u2022 Strong MS office proficiency ( Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook). u2022 Effective communicator with strong negotiations skills. u2022 Positive minded and collaborate team-player attitude. u2022 Intentional planning skills and execution of responsibilities. What else can you tell me about this role? This position is a remote work opportunity. The WCAB is virtual and requires in-person appearances for expedited hearing and trial only. The selected candidate will travel within the following geography: Los Angeles, Long Beach, Marina Del Rey, Van Nuys and Oxnard, California. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartfordu2019s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
