Distribution Designer

Job Title: Distribution DesignerJob Description We are seeking an experienced Distribution Designer to join our team in North Carolina, supporting power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects. This role involves engineering calculations and design for replacing deteriorating cable, moving overhead lines underground, reconductoring existing distribution lines, and replacing aging poles. The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing the reliability of power distribution across the Southeastern United States. Responsibilities + Perform engineering calculations and designs for power distribution projects. + Conduct structural analysis of poles and guying. + Execute cable pulling, electric demand assessments, and fault current calculations. + Coordinate protective device installations. + Move overhead lines underground and reconductor existing lines. + Replace aging poles and deteriorating cables. Essential Skills + Minimum of 2 years of electric utility distribution design experience. + Proficiency in BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and Microstation. + Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. + Understanding of primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards. + Ability to use design software packages. + Good written and oral communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with the Duke Energy system performing distribution design. + Experience in customer and developer interaction for distribution projects. + Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and practices. + Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam (EIT certification preferred). Work Environment Located near downtown with easy access, our newly relocated office houses over 100 employees, including a power group of 40 members. The Raleigh office comprises asset teams, a relocation team, and a lighting team. We offer a hybrid work schedule, allowing work from home on Mondays and Fridays after an initial period of 1-3 months. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
