Field Inspections Intern Print ( Apply ufeff Field Inspections Intern Salary $17.86 - $24.63 Hourly Location Minneapolis, MN Job Type Full-time Job Number 2026-00051 Department Regulatory Services Division Inspection Services Opening Date 02/02/2026 Closing Date 3/10/2026 11:59 PM Central FLSA Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit CNR + Description + Questions Position Description There are currently four (4) full-time Summer Intern vacancies in the Regulatory Services Department for Field Inspection Interns. The hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A resume and cover letter is preferred with your application. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist Housing Inspection Services in a variety of field inspection duties such as: + Environmental nuisance-type inspections such as: tall grass, inoperable vehicles, tires, rubbish and miscellaneous debris, brush piles, sight line brush overhang, overhanging brush in the alley/street and over the public sidewalks, primarily located on residential lots, railroad properties, and vacant lots throughout Minneapolis. + Investigate neighborhood complaints to determine compliance with the Housing Maintenance Code, Zoning and Nuisance Ordinances, and other applicable laws and ordinances. + Proactive enforcement of required rental licensing, including short-term rentals. + Data entry is required to issue written orders for the correction of violations. + Consult with owners, managers, and others on violations and recommended remedial action. + Re-inspect properties on which orders have been issued and document evidence of violations. + Follow established Standard Operating Procedures for accurate data entry of case information. + Additional project duties assigned if needed. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Current students or recent graduates within a year of this announcement with an educational degree focus in Building or Housing Inspections, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Housing Program, Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, or other related fields. Minimum Experience: No experience required. Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license. A resume and cover letter is preferred with your application. Background Check: The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position. Drug and Alcohol Testing: All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position. Union Representation: This is a non-represented position. Eligible List Statement: The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire upon hire. Interview Selection: The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidateu2019s education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities + Good oral and written communication skills. + Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese, and/or Lao are highly desired. + Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. + Knowledge of computer operations, software, and applications, including Microsoft Office. + Ability to contribute to and participate in a positive workplace culture. + Ability to explain and enforce codes in a professional and respectful manner + Conducts inspections at various sites, which could involve traveling between locations and climbing stairs to access different areas.
