_Transmission Metering Engineer_ _FirstEnergy_ About the Opportunity This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. Locations: Akron OH, Toledo OH, or Morristown NJ EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE ALREADY APPLIED DO NOT NEED TO APPLY AGAIN The engineer position will be part of the Transmission Metering group within FirstEnergyu2019s Transmission Operations organization, owning and supporting all aspects of electric metering, including emerging electronic metering technology, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), communications and data requirements. The group is the centralized owner of all transmission metering equipment, standards, and processes across all FirstEnergy operating companies. Responsibilities include: u2022 Research and evaluation of emerging metering technologies and intelligent electronic devices (IEDu2019s) and development of recommendations for implementation and support on FirstEnergyu2019s transmission system. u2022 Managing diverse projects, processes, and programs affecting transmission metering with minimal supervision. u2022 Providing technical support for transmission operational metering including installation, programming, maintenance, and potential replacement of metering equipment. This includes issuing and providing device configuration settings. u2022 Applying engineering skills and operational knowledge in the identification and resolution of metering problems and/or data integrity issues. u2022 Coordinating, managing, and prioritizing the repair and replacement of defective metering equipment with internal and external stakeholders. u2022 Assisting in the development of new, or modification of existing, procedures, standards, practices and/or processes related to transmission metering. u2022 Specifying field test equipment and procedures for testing/commissioning of substation metering equipment. u2022 Ensuring metering standards and practices meet regulatory standards and requirements (FERC, NERC, PJM, and state regulatory bodies.) u2022 Serving as the subject matter expert for all aspects related to transmission metering. u2022 Staying engaged with PJM and industry peers to establish best practices, identify industry trends/issues, and the development of reporting metrics. u2022 Review of new project scopes for addition of possible metering needs and of issued meter related projects to ensure metering design is correct. u2022 Preparing technical reports and summaries, as well as preparing and making presentations when necessary. u2022 Producing results that have a direct, positive impact on the company. u2022 Working both independently and with others to achieve company goals and objectives. u2022 Meeting customer needs by providing professional and timely service. u2022 Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety. An employee hired at the Engineer IV level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Engineer IV will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above. Qualifications at the Engineer II/III Level include: u2022 Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineeru2019s (PE) License (2) a Bacheloru2019s degree in Electrical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bacheloru2019s program. u2022 A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate or Professional Engineeru2019s (PE) License is preferred. u2022 At least of 2 years of professional engineering experience required. u2022 Basic researching skills preferred. u2022 Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. u2022 Ability to work independently on assignments that may be broad in nature involving the compilation, preparation, and analysis of various statistical/analytical data, reports, statements, studies, or projects. u2022 Ability to review and understand substation one-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams is preferred. u2022 Ability to analyze complex problems and demonstrate good judgment in decision-making is essential. u2022 Demonstrated ability to manage diverse projects and the ability to multi-task as needed. u2022 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with departments and teams in multiple locations. u2022 Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point. u2022 Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines. u2022 Self-motivated, self-starter, customer focused, and results oriented. u2022 Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results. u2022 Previous utility experience is desired but not required. u2022 Familiarity with the design, application, and operational characteristics of metering equipment and systems is considered a plus. u2022 Familiarity with instrument transformers (potential transformers and current transformers) is a plus. u2022 Familiarity with, and use of the real-time Energy Management System (EMS), the MV-90 billing system, Cascade, Powerbase, Unifier, CrossBow, EDOA, and/or SAP is a plus. u2022 Knowledge of the electric transmission system, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and PJM standards and policies of the electric utility industry is a plus. u2022 Knowledge of electrical utility metering standards such as ANSI and IEEE is a plus. u2022 Understanding of substations and substation devices is preferred. u2022 Exposure to the use of standard electrical test equipment and methods to troubleshoot and commission electrical equipment in substations and power plants is considered a plus. u2022 Previous knowledge of VPN, TCP/IP, ModBus and/or DNP communication protocols is a plus u2022 Previous knowledge of communications technology such as fiber, wireless, and internet is a plus. Qualifications at the Engineer IV Level include: u2022 Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience required. u2022 A Professional Engineers (PE) License preferred. u2022 Ability to effectively lead multi-discipline team initiatives. u2022 Ability to work with minimal supervision. u2022 Engineer IVs are expected to have a strong aptitude for mentoring.
