View the comprehensive information about the competitive benefits package on our careers page then scroll down toCENTERS Benefits(click link to view).The Assistant Director - Group Fitness & Wellness Programs provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for DePaul Campus Recreation’s fitness and wellness portfolio. Program areas include Group Fitness, Specialty Fitness/Instructional Programs, Private Yoga/Pilates, DIY Wellness, and Fit By Design.This position will work on-site at our DePaul University client location in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL. Since the opening of the Rey Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center in 1999, CENTERS has provided recreation management services to DePaul. DePaul is an innovative Catholic Vincentian university anchored in the global city of Chicago. It is dedicated to making education accessible to all with a special focus on underserved and underrepresented communities.Responsibilities:Lead, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive schedule of fitness and wellness programs utilizing current research, trends, and industry standardsCreate, schedule, and promote quarterly and academic break schedules for each program area: Group Fitness, Specialty Fitness, Instructional Programs, and wellness events (70+ classes/week)Oversee the administration of Private Yoga and Private Pilates servicesManage DIY Wellness programming, including wellness crafting, self-directed kits, and stress-reduction initiativesOversee Fit By Design curriculum, partnerships, and instructional deliveryCreate a sense of belonging and community for participants and staff within assigned program areasSchedule and/or instruct fitness and personal training certification workshops through national organizationsPurchase, inventory, and maintain all equipment and supplies needed for assigned programsResponsible for the preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets for the fitness and wellness area; set fees and revenue targetsDevelop and revise administrative policies and procedures within the areas of responsibilityPrepares and delivers required and requested reports and data to the client and CENTERS central officeCollaborate with other campus staff and the community to promote programsStaff Supervision:Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student (6+), part-time (30+), and contracted instructorsCreate, encourage, and support professional development opportunities for staff, including professional association involvement, training programs, and individual mentoringResponsible for approving timecards and preparing necessary documents/reports for bi-weekly payrollEnsure instructor compliance with all required certifications (Group Fitness, Yoga, Pilates, CPR/AED, etc.)Site Specific Responsibilities:Oversee program registration systems and ensure efficient participant processingMaintain up-to-date program information for the Campus Recreation websiteCollaborate with marketing staff to promote all assigned fitness and wellness programsCoordinate with colleagues on facility scheduling and fitness space operationsEducation and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or 6+ years of work experience required; Master’s preferredExperience working in a collegiate/community recreation environmentPrevious experience in personal training or teaching group fitness classesPrevious staff supervision experienceKnowledge of standard practices and demonstrated experience in recreational sportsCurrent accredited group fitness instructor or personal training certificationAt least three years of fitness programming experience preferredSkills and Abilities:Leadership and supervisory abilitiesAbility to work as part of, and lead a team that collaborates effectively with colleaguesAbility to prioritize and meet deadlinesEntrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasmAnalytical skills to identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisionsAbility to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyle choicesWork EnvironmentOffice, sporting, and non-sporting events environmentNon-smoking environmentModerate to loud noiseMaintain flexible hours for events that may occur on weekends and eveningsPhysical DemandsSitting at desk or table for at least 60% of the work dayWorking in fitness center environment at least 40% of dayTeach fitness class/personal training sessions as requiredMust be able to traverse throughout the arena and campus.
