Next filing cut-offs are at 5:00 pm on: 2/17/26, 3/3/26 (final) Under general direction, the Food Service Program Manager directs, plans, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of a County food service program and/or kitchen facility; and coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments, outside agencies, and the general public. Examples of Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of u2022 Principles and practices of management and organizational theory, including planning, organizational design, business finance, business development, project management, and organizational effectiveness u2022 Principles and practices of supervision, discipline, leadership, mentoring, and training u2022 Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding food service operations in detention and/or commercial institutions u2022 English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation u2022 Menu planning, menu modifications for special diets, and nutrition u2022 Principles of purchasing, storing, and preparing food in large quantities u2022 Equipment and supplies used to cook and bake in commercial-size kitchens Ability to u2022 Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff u2022 Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of subordinate staff u2022 Investigate and resolve disciplinary issues u2022 Work independently, prioritize work, coordinate activities and meet critical deadlines u2022 Develop, monitor and interpret food service budgets and other financial documents u2022 Plan, manage, and complete complex work assignments u2022 Use standard office equipment including computers and software applications essential to food service operations u2022 Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others u2022 Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing u2022 Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations u2022 Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met u2022 Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of information Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Either: 1. One year of full-time paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Food Service Supervisor. Or: 2. Four years of full-time paid experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen which includes experience in cooking, menu planning, food and supply ordering, including at least one year of experience supervising employees engaged in serving food. Note: Education or training from an accredited college, training school, business school or occupational training program that is directly related to the cooking and/or food service program management knowledge and abilities above may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience in Pattern 2. The basis for determining equivalency is: 30 semester units (45 quarter units) equal one year of experience. Completion of training courses which do not have semester unit values are equated to semester units on the basis of: 15 clock hours of class equal one (1) semester unit. Note: If the word u201cexperienceu201d is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements. General Qualifications Criminal History and Background Checks: The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for the above class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602, Personnel Policies and Procedure B-5 and applicable federal and state law. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidate's ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information, the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained. The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5, Social Security Number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection process. In obtaining such information, the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act. License Requirement: A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. ServSafe Certificate: All positions in this class are required to have a ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate prior to appointment. Failure to maintain the appropriate certificates may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules and/or applicable bargaining agreement. Other Requirements: All positions in this class require tuberculin clearance. Probationary Period The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
