University of Rochester: Office of the Provost: Academic Center: Eastman School of Music: Music Theory Salary Range or Pay Grade $65,000-$75,000 Description The Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment in Music Theory beginning 1 July 2026. This is a three-year, renewable, non-tenure eligible position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include teaching 3-4 theory or aural skills classes per semester. Collaborate with department faculty on summer placement exams, training and supervision of Teaching Assistants for core theory and aural skill classes, departmental curriculum committees, and other relevant service work in the school or university. In compliance with the NY Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $ 65,000-75.000. The University of Rochester considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidateu2019s work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Qualifications Candidates should be experienced pedagogues and have a proven record of outstanding theory and aural-skills teaching. A doctorate in music theory or a related field is strongly preferred. ABD candidates will be considered, as will candidates without a doctorate who have extensive experience teaching music theory and aural skills. All areas of specialty are welcome. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in aural-skills pedagogy.
