Machine Vision Engineer

Job Title: Machine Vision Engineer Job Description The Machine Vision Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of machine vision and automated inspection systems in custom automation equipment for the Medical Device and Life Sciences industries. This role is a technical contributor within the Engineering function, focusing on inspection strategy, vision system implementation, proof-of-principle development, and support of machine validation activities. The position blends hands-on technical execution with mentorship, estimation support, and laboratory stewardship, aiding both project execution and organizational capability development in machine inspection technologies. Responsibilities + Design and implement automated inspection solutions such as part presence/absence detection, dimensional verification, cosmetic inspection, code reading (1D/2D, OCR/OCV), and defect detection. + Configure and deploy industrial vision hardware and software platforms including Cognex, Keyence, Matrox/Zebra, Basler, and other comparable vision and imaging technologies. + Develop vision algorithms using rule-based and data-driven techniques suitable for inspection risk and regulatory requirements. + Integrate vision systems with PLCs, motion systems, robotics, and HMI/SCADA platforms. + Support electrical design and software architecture decisions related to inspection hardware, lighting, optics, and network topology. + Participate in machine debug, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and customer training activities. Essential Skills + Bacheloru2019s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Systems, or related field), or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation, machine vision, or inspection system development. + Hands-on experience developing industrial machine vision systems using multiple platforms (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Matrox/Zebra, Basler). + Experience integrating vision systems with PLC-based control systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Proficiency in machine vision programming including Cognex and Keyence. + Experience with PLC/HMI programming and robotics. + Strong understanding of electrical design and robotics. Work Environment This is an onsite role in St. Paul, MN. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
