Alternative fuels are defined as liquefied petroleum gas (LP-Gas/LPG/Propane), compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). AFS is seeking a Field Inspector in AFS District 06 in the North Central Texas area. District 06 consists of the following Counties: Bell, Bosque, Burnet, Comanche, Coryell, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, McLennon, Mills, Williamson. (The following link will take you to the AFS district map: involves on-site technical inspections of alternative fuel installations and equipment (such as bulk storage, cylinder filling, service station, public, commercial and industrial installations, transport trucks, school buses and mass transit vehicles) as well as conducting incident/accident investigations, complaint investigations and special inspections. The inspector determines compliance with state statutes, safety rules, adopted national standards, and federal code requirements. This position offers the opportunity to work with industry professionals to ensure safe operation standards. Inspectors perform site visits and provide current information on statutes and adopted rules and ensure installations and equipment meet safety requirements and regulations. Work is completed under moderate supervision of the Inspector Manager and Department Director.Essential Job Dutiesand#8226;For initial training, extensive overnight travel of 50% or more for the first six months to one year.and#8226;Training for LPG, CNG, and LNG will be provided. At the conclusion of training on each fuel type, management level certification exams will be administered in written or electronic format. You will be required to pass these tests with a minimum score of 80% for CNG and LNG and a minimum score of 85% for LPG.and#8226;Daily and overnight travel includes completing inspections, investigations and attending training. Daily travel is 80% or more with frequency of overnight travel is dependent on location of inspectorand#8217;s HQ after initial training is completed.and#8226;Perform timely inspections and report indings on a consistent basis working from a generated district annual schedule.and#8226;Must have scheduling flexibility to be on-call as needed to respond to emergency situations and conduct incident/accident investigations.and#8226;Complete and submit weekly inspection reports, investigations, and special projects.and#8226;Utilize a state-issued laptop computer to schedule work assignments, complete reports and telecommute.and#8226;Operation of a state-issued vehicle with extensive driving and field work.and#8226;Respond to inquiries regarding rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.and#8226;Applicants must reside in any of the counties of District 06, while reporting to the Austin office as required.For Military Crosswalk information, please visit: Minimum QualificationsGraduation from a standard senior high school or G.E.D.One or more yearsand#8217; LPG/CNG/LNG or Three or more years technical/inspection experience in a related or other professional field.A valid Texas Driverand#8217;s License.Must reside in or be willing to relocate to one of the Counties in District 06. District 06 consists of the following Counties: Bell, Bosque, Burnet, Comanche, Coryell, Hamilton, Hill, Lampasas, McLennon, Mills, Williamson. (The following link will take you to the AFS district map: to work Monday-Friday, 8:00AM and#8211; 5:00PM with occasional flexible hours, nights, weekends.Experience and education may substitute for each other on a year for year basis.Preferred QualificationsBA/BS degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Corrosion Technology or other job-related field.Five or more yearsand#8217; professional work experience.Two or more years' experience implementing technical and administrative procedures, rules, regulations, policies, and enforcement guidelines.Two or more years' experience composing professional business correspondence and documents with effective use of grammar, reading and comprehension, and appropriate audience content.Experience may have occurred concurrently.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge and understanding of alternative fuels.Demonstrated excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.Ability to travel overnight on a regular basis is required as necessary to complete work assignments.Ability to effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) technical information to a variety of audiences.Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions; climb, stoop, and reach low and high areas; crawl in cramped quarters, and lift or move up to 75 pounds.Ability to walk and stand for considerable lengths of time is required while conducting inspections and other assigned duties.Ability to work independently.Ability to work effectively on a team.Ability to address issues/concerns in a professional manner.Ability to maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.Ability to respond to high pressure situations and meet changing demands and timelines.Ability to learn regulations and standards. This includes the ability to pass required quizzes and exams at, or above, the required scores.Proficiency in the use of computer systems utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and database systems as well as the use of standard office equipment.Work Hours:and#8239;Standard office hours for Commission employees are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
