Prep Cook [Hypsi]Hypsi Prep Cook Full Time Hypsi, the signature restaurant at the new Hotel Daphne, located in the heart of Houston Heights is preparing to open its doors, and we’re building a passionate, hospitality-driven team to bring it to life.Italian-inspired with a Houston spirit, Hypsi will launch with dinner service and expand into breakfast and lunch soon after. The menu will spotlight a robust pasta program and elegant yet approachable entrées. A signature roaming mozzarella cart will serve hand-pulled cheeses with curated add-ons like pickled vegetables, aged vinegars, and cold-pressed olive oil.We are now looking to grow our team and are seeking dynamic individuals who will capture the very essence of this culinary destination and join our team as a Line Cook.Your roleReporting to the Executive Chef, the Cook will exceed the expectations of all Bunkhouse guests in a multitude of tasks that include, but are not limited to food preparation duties, cooking and seasoning all menu items, ordering kitchen supplies and maintaining Health Department Standards within your work area. Responsibilities:Prepare a variety of foods, according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved proceduresPrep food items for after-hours distributionClean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverwareStore food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilageCarry food supplies, equipment, and utensils to and from storage and work areas Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practicesObserve and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensilsPortion, arrange, and garnish food, and serve food to waiters or patronsRegulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roastersEstimate expected food consumption, requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storageConsult with supervisory staff to plan menus, taking into consideration factors such as costs and special event needsMaintain a positive relationship with all employees and guestsAlways ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all business needs are metMaintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work areaEnsure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working conditionMaintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the propertyKeep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirementsAttend relevant meetingsAdhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instructionQualificationsHigh School diploma or general education degree (GED)Two (2) years related experience in hospitality or service industryMust be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplaceAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manualsAbility to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staffThe position responsibilities outlined above are in no way to be construed as all encompassing.
