Job Description Job Title Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) Job Summary The Stepdown RN provides direct patient care in a stepdown unit (also known as progressive care or intermediate care), providing close monitoring and specialized care to patients transitioning from the intensive care unit or those requiring a higher level of care than a general medical-surgical unit. Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care, including assessment, medication administration, and treatments. Monitor patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and overall condition. Respond to changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans. Administer medications, including titrating vasoactive drips and other complex infusions. Perform wound care and manage wound vacs. Provide respiratory support, including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care. Manage arterial lines, central lines, and PICC lines. Educate patients and families on their condition, treatment plan, and discharge instructions. Float within scope to meet facility needs, potentially floating between like units. Participate in rapid response and code teams as needed. Charting using Epic. Required Qualifications Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse. Current SC license or Compact license in hand prior to start. BLS certification. ACLS certification. Travel Experience Required Preferred Qualifications NIHSS certification.
