This is a 40 hour work week; five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be discussed with supervisor.PurposeTo provide journey level skilled work associated with building fire alarm systems.ResponsibilitiesPerforms journey level skilled work in the maintenance and operation of fire alarm systems in campus buildings. Performs both routine and preventative maintenance on detection and alarm systems. Performs and/or assists with fire alarm systems inspections. Assists with fire sprinkler inspections when required. Assists with repair, replacement, upgrade and remodel of fire alarm systems. Assists with fire alarm system commissioning.Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors and team members up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.Performs work from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures.Generates material lists and acquires materials for efficient work. Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Keeps accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.Supports outages, coordinates and works with contractors and other entities and responds and gives guidance to emergency personnel. Participates in the on-call program.Keeps up to date on all code changes, testing procedures and product knowledge.Performs organizing and cleaning tasks to keep work areas safe and efficient. Cleans and keeps mechanical equipment and rooms organized.Assists other shops and team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators.Required QualificationsHigh school graduation or GED. Three years of experience in journey level inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems or electronic equipment, systems, and components. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.Preferred QualificationsAssociate Degree or equivalent in related technical field. More than three years of experience in maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. NICET Level I certification or higher in Fire Alarm Systems or other related fields. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.May be required to lift up to 50lbs.
